Ragnir takes the deer and places it across his lap. He takes a knife out of his bag and begins to skin the deer. He lops off a big section and talks to the group.
"We move silently and talk at night. What else could we have gotten for food?"
Chaz looked to Kerag and then Venom, then shrugged.
I was...kind of counting on, uh...you guys to figure that out.

Venom looked at Chaz in disbelief. How do cathians survive on their own? He wondered how he's survived this long. He pointed towards the trees around them.
Sometimes you'll find some fruit in the trees as well.
Kerag was impressed with Venom's survival instincts and hunting ability. He grinned, shooting Ragnir a glance.
"Thank the old war gods my brother has accompanied us."
His glowing eye followed the trunk of a particularly large tree, spotting a few splotches of color which starkly contrasted with the greens and brown of the tree. He started stripping his armor, down to his white fundoshi.
"Let me have a look."
He said in a whisper, popping his fingers individually as he approached the tree and wrapped his arms around the base, lifting himself up higher and higher until he reached the canopy. He took a moment to look around, seeing the forest's growth spread endlessly in every direction. He caught his breath now, and examined what appeared to be reddish-orange fruits growing plentifully amongst the branches. He wanted to call down to them, but decided against it, using one arm to hold as many of them as he could pluck, and slowly climbed down, setting the apples down on the ground for them to see. Kerag took a bite out of one and smiled. It tasted sweet.

"Very good Venom. We won't go hungry with your talent around. We also could have trapped a few small mammals or shot the birds, but one food is not always correct. Sometimes we value flexibility over safety and we can't carry around half a deer for a day."
He punctuates his speech with strong cuts of his blade through the deer. Bits fall on the skin which he has stretched out below him.
"Chaz would you mind rigging up a way to cook these over the fire?"
He points to a large bit of leg meat and some ribs which sit on the skin below him.
Chaz rolled his eyes as praise was lavished on Venom. By rights, he should know all this. Cathians were natural hunter-gatherers, but he'd never paid attention when his father took him on camping trips. Usually he ended up bruised and broken simply from utterly failing at every outdoor activity he put his hand to. But then he perked up when Ragnir addressed him again, and grinned wide.
That I can do. He ducked into the forest, his mind automatically drawing a blueprint for what he'd need. It wasn't the strength and stable size of metal, but it would work. It was probably the only thing he'd enjoyed or picked up on with those camping trips. He gathered sticks and rocks, and when he got back was able to construct a crude grate above the fire, damping it a little with the flat rocks. The coals still burned bright, but not hot enough to burn the sticks as they hovered a little bit over heat, and delicately put the meat on, grinning at his ability to solve problems. Luckily he'd had some twine on him...

Nice Brother Kerag. I didn't know you could climb trees.
He picked up one of the apples and wiped it with his clothing before taking a big bite out of it. With his mouth full and still chewing on the fruit, he says...

Venom raises an eyebrow as he took another bite from his apple after Ragnir mentioned he had to carry half of the deer the next day. That didn't sound ingenious at all. After he finished chewing he replied to the dragon hunter.
I figured we were all hungry, but above all my Brother Kerag here would have eaten the whole thing himself. I guess maybe we can even use as bait for the dragon. Now that's ingenious indeed.
Very felt proud at what he just said and smiled at him.
Kerag smiled. He didn't climb trees often, considering he came from the Mountains and lived in cities for the rest of his life, but he had the strength and the determination to carry out almost any physical task handed to him. He raised an eyebrow at Ragnir's suggestion about Venom carrying the deer and shook his head, clasping Venom by the shoulder, chuckling softly as he did so.
"Aye two perhaps. Yet worry not about carrying the deer. Tis only half of one."
Kerag made it sound effortless.
"Might as well make my strength useful eh? And I won't eat it if we can indeed use the carcass as bait."
The orc took another bite from his apple, down to the core.

Chaz watched the meat, rolling his eyes. Ragnir had complimented him, but Venom had taken credit. He mentally shrugged and poked the ribs, moving them a little to let them cook evenly.
I think I could figure something out. He paused, thinking.
Can't wait until I get my hands on some dragon skin.

"I wouldn't go counting your yakows before you've got them in the slaughterhouse, Chaz. We haven't seen any signs of dragon activity and we're barely past village borders."
Ragnir steps away from the fire a bit and cuts a sapling out of its roots. He rips the branches off and uses his knife to cut the bark off. He takes his new straight clean green stick and stabs a rib. The weight bends the stick towards the ground but Ragnir seems satisfied.
"Don't eat them straight off the fire. You'll fry your tongue and you'll need it later."
Chaz thought a moment, then used his wrench to grab onto the end of one of the ribs, tightening it down and taking it off the fire, blowing on it gently.
