Serenity chuckled, "Oh which ever you'd like to share if you want to share at all. I only asked out of curiosity, my first love and sexual experience was one in the same."
She wasn't sure if she wanted to bring up her marriage if Margrett asked. Serenity was more or less comfortable with the fact now, especially since her trip coming back home from Highever. The mage thought that she would leave out the grimmer details if she could help it.
You're lucky. Not a lot of people get to have that. She took another drink.
First sexual experience...I only count Aaron. A slave like myself. We sort of...dallied when we were young. Neither of us knew what we were doing.
Romantic...geez. She paused, lost in thought.
That would have been Elsa. She was ahh...a woman I knew. Pretty much perfect. A metaphorical angel. She had to...leave. And literal, she added.
Then Joran. He came later, maybe a little more seriously. He was...foreign, so I had to teach him everything. About everything. I think we bonded over that. In the end neither of us knew what we wanted out of the relationship.
"My, so many people in your life, I'm envious. My romantic life wasn't as adventurous, well I suppose it was in its own special way."
Serenity nodded her head on Margrett's shoulder when she finished her last statement, "Yes, I understand completely, I was no different. In fact, I don't think I still know what I would want out of a relationship, haven't thought about it for many years." she laughed at herself.
"My James was impossible to deal with at first. He came from a middle class family and was privileged to attend the same University I did. The moment we met eye to eye he would not leave me alone. It was so bothersome and more than once did he embarrass me in front of my peers." She shook her head, "But...his persistence paid off eventually."
When Margrett asked it seemed Serenity noticed that her neck was becoming a little stiff. The mage lifted her head off the shoulder and rubbed her neck a little, her face neither frowning or showing a lighter expression.
She sighed, "Well, I suppose there's no hiding it. We were living together in a wood when he was killed by a monster...It's how I came to Wistvale in the first place, though it wasn't meant to be my final destination."
Serenity purposely left out the werewolf part due to Margrett's earlier comments, she did chuckle to herself remembering it.
She looked at Margrett and showed a small smile, "Its been years though, its not a happy memory but it no longer affects me. I only keep the happy times on hand."
Serenity finished massaging her neck when she slightly raised an eyebrow at Margrett's last words.
"A sign for what? You don't have to be embarrassed or shy around me Margrett." she finished showing her classic smile again. The lady honestly didn't have a clue what Margrett could mean. She took another small sip of the rum, barely swallowing it.
Serenity nearly spat the drink back into her cup. She swallowed quickly and resumed her laughter.
"Oh if James were here now he would have had a laugh."
Serenity continued her sudden case of laughter and shortly after it faded away.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't mocking you, the way you said that just made me laugh."
She wiped a tear from her eye, chuckling still, and finally calmed herself down.
"Well, I honestly don't know what it was. I think I was always a little curious, perhaps even while I was spending time with James, even before. During my apprenticeship as a companion, I was told that we could service both men and women. I chose to work with women specifically, because the thought of being with another man didn't sit well with me. This wasn't long after James died. While I was working as a companion...well I suppose that's how it developed."
Serenity shrugged her shoulders, giggling a little and took another swig of the rum.
"You didn't always consider women that way, Margrett?"
The lady looked up to the sky, remembering, before taking another small sip.
"Wistvale wasn't meant to be my last stop, as I said before. There was really no place for me to go. I suppose I was just going to keep on travelling with no real way of knowing when I would stop. When I arrived at Wistvale I had spent most of my money already, and decided to stay to see if I can't earn some coin before moving on again. Then Grayell held the impromptu elections and I became a part of the council. I decided to stay, see if I can't make a difference, add new purpose to my life."
A lot of interesting things happened to her since that time, what with the werewolves, Gray, combating blood mages and psychotic machines. She couldn't regret any of it, however, her life hadn't been that exciting since she first started dating James.
"What about you, Margrett, what attracted you to our wonderful Wistvale?" she finished with a slight sarcastic undertone, knowing that the town is still just developing from the muck it once was.
Well...my dad spent most of his young adulthood as a sheriff. A lawman, before he was captured. I wanted to follow in his footsteps before I...try anything bigger. I got plans.
"Oh, big plans, do you want to take up a political office soon?"
She didn't know whether Margrett meant it for Wistvale or not, but she would do her best to support her if Margrett required the help. After she had room to breathe of course if the work isn't as serious as she exclaimed before the trip.
"My father has always been a part of the court in Highever, an office I would never take because of my sex. Not that I wanted it anyway, though I never imagined I would take a similar office in a new town. Irony is funny that way I suppose."
Ha. Political office. You could say that. She stood up and walked to where Serenity had been a few moments ago. It was her turn to grandstand.
I want to make Wistvale into something big. Something strong. What my father's town should have been. Kickstart the economy, bring in industry, organize production, install a government, become a city-state. She spread her arms a little.
Start an army, defend and expand our borders, absorb anyone who wanted it, ignore those who didn't, quash those who attacked us.
No slavery. No one would have to go through what I did. Or what you went through. She turned, smiling a little.
We'd control the wilds. The only monsters left would be the ones working for us. Men and women both in office, keeping order. She turned back.
It's...it's a pipe dream. But someday I'll do it. I know I will.

("The only monsters left would be the ones working for us," Why am I sensing a prelude to Third Dawn )
Serenity was impressed, a little surprised, even she hadn't considered so far into Wistvale's future. She wanted the town to expand sure for starts, but never did she plan on the big picture. The lady wanted to tackle things at present and not aspire to any particular goal. To see Margrett as she spoke of her aspirations, was inspiring.
"Perhaps I should give you my position, Margrett." she chuckled, "I can see you really want to help Wistvale grow. If your plans come to fruition even Highever would have to take notice."
In truth she hoped that didn't happen, not that Highever has a long history of war, but in recent years the military might of her former city-state has expanded quite a bit. She wondered if it was for security or perhaps something much greater. The mage chose to ponder such grim details at a different time.
