"I once dug a pit and filled it with clouds....or was it clowns.... it doesn't matter, it didn't slow him down. But it really began to smell! Must have been clowns. Clouds don't smell, they taste of butter. And tears!"
"Jyggalag! He is the Prince of Order. Or biscuits...no, no, Order! And not in a good way. Bleak. Colorless. Dead. Boring, boring, BORING! And not a fan of my work, I can tell you. Hates it, hates me. You've seen his knights. Not the warm and cuddly sort. "
However... shame on you all for not mentioning the greatest board game the world has ever known. Can you guess what it is pawns or do you need a hint, hm?

Not a video game, but I've been playing a lot of Warhammer 40k.
I started collecting a Necron army (up to 2000pts right now) this past Spring and found a group to play with recently. We have games weekly, along with playing the RPG, Serenity.
I was on a videogame binge for a few of days between exams and Christmas, so I'm gonna write a some thoughts on what I played if anyone's interested in reading. Call them mini-reviews if you'd like.
Basically 1 game and 4 DLCs
Skyrim Dawnguard DLC What with Dragonborn coming to PCs in January I thought I'd catch up with the previous downloadable content for Skyrim as well. So far I've only finished the Dawnguard side of the main quest. I'd say the whole thing was a bit... meh? There were some interesting bits, but oh my god if I ever have to set foot in the Soul Cairn again it will be too soon. I'm honestly struggling trying to think of a recent game that had less interesting level design in it. It was so bland and boooring. I can only hope that it was at least partially intentional on Bethesda's part to better convey what a horrible fate it is to be soul-trapped. Guess I'm not gonna use that spell as often anymore if that's what I'm subjecting people to. Another reason why I might not have enjoyed it as much is because the Falmer are among my least favorite enemies and the last third of the questline was pretty much just fighting my way through them to get to the Important Divine Relic. I had planned to become a Vampire Lord with one of my other characters, but now I'm not so sure anymore.
Skyrim Hearthfire DLC I don't know what it says about me when I enjoyed a small house-building pack more than a big one about slaying vampires, but honestly I've been having a blast with this one. Maybe I'm just too much of a roleplayer at heart. If I had a complaint, it would only be that I wished we could choose to build a hous in all of the Holds, not just three.
Mass Effect 3 Omega DLC I went into this one with pretty high expectations and came away a bit disappointed. I like Aria as a character, but reminiscing about the ~3 hrs of playtime the main things that stuck with me were the very dark and linear corridor-style levels. The ending was kinda abrupt too, at least it seemed so to me, though I liked that *SPOILER* I could spare the bad guy's life. That doesn't happen nearly as often in videogames as I would like it to. *END SPOILER* I dunno, I liked Leviathan more than I did Omega.
Borderlands 2 Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage DLC In a word: AWESOME! Some of the funniest dialogue I have ever seen in a game. BL2 may have had a bunch of really cool and quotable lines, especially from Handsome Jack, but I can't remember the last time I would have wanted like 90% of the dialogue to be condensed into a Youtube video so I could listen to them whenever I wanted (or share with a non-gaming friend). The gameplay itself was very similar to the base game, but that was to be expected. Overall I liked it more then the previous Captain Scarlett's Pirate Booty DLC (which was good, but not outstanding).
Stacking I bought this game during the Steam Summer Sales but didn't have the chance to play it until now. I think I'm about halfway through and am enjoying it immensely. Created by Double Fine Productions (the devs that made Psychonauts and Costume Quest), it's this slightly bizarre but very humorous and charming adventure/puzzle game about a little boy's quest to save his elder siblings from being used as child labor by the evil industrialist Baron. Oh and all the characters in the world are matryoshkas (aka Russian nesting dolls). The way to solve the various puzzles is to take over larger dolls by jumping into them and using their unique abilities in clever ways. There is always more than one solution to every situation so it's fun to try to discover them all. I also like the setting and visual style a lot. I'd definitely recommend people to check it out if they can.
My brother and I have been on a retro fever this holiday; wanting to recapture those relics of our childhood so to speak.
We collected an NES, SNES, and N64 with a few games for each. It's nice to replay through some of these games for nostalgia and to remember what "hard" in a video game really is.
I haven't gotten any of the ME3 paid dlc yet, but I'm not all too fond of downloadable content from Bioware based on previous purchases for both Mass Effect and Dragon Age. The content is either too short, or not all that impressive for the retail price. Usually both.
I did buy most of the Skyrim dlc minus the latest one. I was pleasantly surprised by how much there is to do when building your own home in Hearthfire, as I literally spent about a day making my first mansion.
However, when it comes right down to it, you could do well off with just the regular homes you can buy from the various holds. I don't need a massive armory when I only use the same set of armor and weapons most of the time. Overall, I felt the dlc was something that's nice to have but not really worth putting money down for.
I like the Borderlands 2 dlc thus far, likewise Carnage better than Pirate's. I'm looking forward to the 3rd which comes out Jan. 15

After years of having the first two Mass Effect games, I finally got round to playing them. I've completed 1 and am half way through 2. I really love these games. I love getting together a crew of characters and the story is decent. I started playing 2 directly after finishing 1 and was blown away by the events in opening sequence! I actually found myself doing the epic "NOOOOOOO!"
I, also, got Reckoning: Kingdoms of Amulur for christmas so will be playing that at some point. I still have to get round to finishing Dragon Age and pick up DA2.
Dragon Age was good, but I wish they had put more effort into some aspects like the grafics like they did with Mass Effect. It somehow just seemed "cheaper" by comparison considering they were put out by the same company.
Never got to play Mass Effect 1 as i have a Playstation, but I did play 2 and really enjoyed it. I got 3 for xmas, but haven't tried it yet as i am currently playing Uncharted 3. Amazing story and tons of "Oh Crap!" moments which make the game so good in my opinion. It all flows together so well you don't know when things are going to happen (especially while climbing or transitioning levels).
Still need to get back to Skyrim and Assassin's Creed 3 but I'm trying to hold off until the DLC hits so I don't have to replay JUST for the extra content...
Oh yeah, I looove the Mass Effect series. I've played through all of them at least twice. I even got my neighbour kid hooked on it, even though he has no consoles or gaming pc of his own, so the only times he can play it is when I'm not in my university town and can invite him over for a few hours. It took us like half a year to finish ME2 that way (we started with the second game because I thought he'd like it the most) and are currently about 30% of the way through the third game. By the time we get to finishing ME1 as well I might have even graduated.
BTW Alex, did you know that they released ME1 for the PS3 in December? You should definitely get it if you have the chance and are interested. The graphics might be a tad dated in comparison to newer games, but the story's still rock solid IMHO.
As for myself I finished Dishonored not too long ago and I really enjoyed it even though stealth games are not really my forte. Finished with Low Chaos by only killing if I had no other choice (and always took the Non-Lethal options for my targets) and pretty much only used Lvl 2 Blink and Darkvision powers. After I'd got to the end I figured I wasn't going to do another playthrough anytime soon, but now I've got the itch for a High Chaos, revenge-fueled rampage.
And finally, after a couple of false starts I've finally fallen in love with Crusader Kings II, so much so that I've promised not to touch it again until I have studied for my last two exams. The intense initial learning curve was what had kept me away, but after a some trial-and-error and wiki browsing the payoff was well worth it.
Yeah I think I remember seeing that not too long ago. Might go pick it up later.
Dishonored is one of those games i want to play, I just haven't got around to getting it yet. Same goes for X-Com. I played the demo and liked it. Reminds me a (tiny) bit of Valkyria Chronicles which I loved. (Turned based squad combat with some RPG elements and control over individual members)
Still looking forward to The Last of Us and the new Tomb Raider (never played the others)
As a PC gamer who's never had any consoles (they're not too popular here), seeing great console exclusive games come out makes me feel sad. Especially since The Last of Us looks sooo good from previews. That and I still haven't forgiven Rockstar for keeping Red Dead Redemption just on the Xbox 360. *makes desperate grabby hands*
