I saw we had a thread for videogames but no thread for board games and card games. Some games I enjoy are Magic the Gathering, Monopoly, Risk, Settlers of Catan, Trivial Pursuit, Egyptian Ratscrew and Bartok.
Risk is such a clog normally so we usually play with capitals. First person to control all the capitals wins. We also sometimes play with rules for nuclear missiles or a version of the rules based on the Civilization videogame series where every player starts with an army in only one territory.
I never got into card games unless it was Fish or Black Jack.
I didn't even collect Pokemon or Yu Gi Oh! cards.
But now? I find myself obsessed and utterly addicted to kicking ass with my Stark deck for the Game of Thrones card game. Now I need to work on my Lannister deck and I shall be unbeatable! Mwahaha!
My gaming group consists of me and my 9yr old and 12yr old as finding a good group to game with in my area is not possible. lol
Heroscape
Munchkin
Catan, with all but the Seafarers expansion
Ive tried some D&D with them and got them to role up characters for Mage.
Recently got them playing Magic: the Gathering after a near 20 year break on my part. Now I'm trolling ebay for lots of random cards just to build a stock up for them to mess with.
In the past I've played alot of various board games and pen and paper RPGs. White Wolf by far has been my favorite with Vampire: the Masquerade being my favorite of all time. Followed closely by Mage: the Ascencion.
Troll and Toad is a good web site for MTG I was a creeper there for a while. You should try Mansions of Madness, it is a Cthulu mythos board game. And try Pathfinder, it is superior to D&D unless Wizzards of the Coast can do better in 5.0
Game of thrones card game... hhhmmm if it wasnt for the fact that I'd have to play with the kids... lol
Yeah I was looking and T and T as they will have a booth at Dragoncon in a couple weeks. Looking to drop some money there, definatly.
Yeah 4th edition is kind of weird to me, but the kids got it because of the more video game style leveling and powers. I liked 3.5, which is what i hear Pathfinder uses, but not sure how theyd take it.
It kind of worries me how often Wizards is coming up with changes to the rules for D&D now. Like they just can't seem to find something that works or theyre happy with.
True. Pathfinder is essentially 3.75 due to the fact they got rid of the UBER godly stuff and actually reward players who stick to one class with capstone abilities. They also removed some of the balance issues concerning feats and talents. Overall it's awesome and me and my gaming group play all the time using pathfinder.
Maybe i should try trolling the local game shop for a group again...
the last group i tried to game with was playing Dark Sun and they had this big long list of things you couldnt do. Most of which made zero sense.
"You can't play a Thri-keen because how can you as a human possibly understand what its like to be a bug and how to properly RP such." (Not that I WANTED to be one lol)
My thought was "By that logic, this game takes place in a fantasy setting on a desert planet, how the flarb am I supposed to understand that as a human in the real world? That's why its called ROLE playing... lol"

I absolutely love Heroscape and I recently got my partner into it too so I don't have to play as much solo-scape. Heheh. I'm also a big fan of chess - especially themed ones (I have 4 Lord of the Rings sets!), and like to play Stratego.
I bought a D&D boxed starter set a few years back, which was pretty foolish of me in hindsight because I have zero people to play with. Family's not interested and out of my two friends one isn't into fantasy or board games AT ALL and the other I barely ever get to meet in person. I might try seeing if there are any active D&D groups when I'm back in my university town, but I feel kinda iffy about playing with complete strangers.
Other than that, my brother and I still have our old Pokemon card decks from back when we still dueled each-other. Funny story: our first decks were a Christmas present from mom, who knew nothing about the game, so she got us both an identical Grass-Electric box-set with 60 cards. Talk about an even playing field. XD

I have always been a huge fan of board games. My family played them all the time growing up. Especially Sorry!, which is the game that first revealed the fact that I am evil and love crushing my opponents. Luckily I also don't mind losing so I'm not totally intolerable to play with.
These days I love party type games like Apples to Apples and Imaginiff.
Me and my fiance started playing D&D with a couple of friends on a weekly basis a few years ago. It was the first time I'd ever played it and an older friend had to teach us all the rules. I'm not sure which version we used because we were pretty casual about it. We don't play anymore but are talking about maybe starting up again sometimes soon. That would be fun, I randomly find myself missing the joys of rolling my pretty green dice.

Just started playing Carcassonne. It's a relatively quick tile placing game for 2-5 players. I bought the starter set to play over Christmas and we like it so much we're buying the big box set which has the basic game and a lot of the expansions.
