Kiga didn't give too much thought to what Ely might be thinking, or feeling. And not because he was insensitive, but because he had already decided well before now that it just wasn't such a big deal. No, he wasn't discounting what Ely felt, but he knew it wasn't her fault and didn't think she should be blaming herself at all. Therefore, he just smiled and reached across the table to find both of her hands. Grabbing them meant that the menu was tugged from between them and he found her eyes, him smiling at her in the most affectionate manner.
"Fantastic. I shall try it too then!"
Maybe this would prove to be a great opportunity for Ely to realize she had no need to feel poorly about the past.
Ely ordered for them both when the serving fellow made it to their table. Once done and after taking a drink of the water sitting in front of her she glanced back through the restaurant. There were not that many patrons here this evening, but she had a roaming eye and couldn't quite keep still. In fact, she fiddled with the tableware more than once, stabbing at the table with her fork. She had never been a very patient girl.

Kiga sat there for a time too, always wanting to fidget and having to restrain himself in front of such civilized company. Oh, he could act the part of a perfect gentleman if need be, but his time with Ely was his treasured opportunity to simply be himself. He had to stop himself drumming on the table, whistling, stretching and even rocking in his chair, all very fidgety things that just 'happened' as it were.
Finally, his mind latched onto something that gave him the perfect means to fill the time between now and their meal. He rummaged through the massive coat they'd found for him to wear and untied the string on a rather large bag... to pull out a gift.
"Um. Hey, so I was... well looking for something. I mean just, you know, something special and well, I kinda didn't know whattodoandthenIwasallconfusedaboutwhatyoumightlikeandwhatwasproperandthentherewasthisoneguy....."
Oh my. Kiga snapped his mouth shut and turned a very deep shade of red. His mouth had just ran away with him and so instead, he placed the present on the table. He had no idea if she'd even like it.

Ely's brows knitted together so tightly they formed little arrow points above her eyes. She stared at the headpiece that he placed on the table curiously and then back to Kiga's red face.
She had no idea what to say, or do for that matter. Ely reached for the gift still resting on the table. She turned it every which way, admiring the carving and decoration on it. She still did not know what to think or why he was giving it to her now. Finally she lifted her eyes to his face.
"It is very beautiful."
It was and it made the ring she had given him, while still in the library, seem like something you might find in an empty magic shop.
"Thank you."
Was her voice as inadequate as she thought it was?

Kiga didn't have many words planned to say after that. He was terrible at choosing gifts and really, had never had anyone he had cared for so deeply, let alone had chosen to get them something from himself. He'd a hard time of it too. Certainly, he could have bought her flowers and candy and perhaps that would have been a much better idea. But Kiga had spotted the crown and asked about it and when he heard of it's significance, it sounded terribly important. It sounded like something that someone special should have and really, who was more special than Ely?
He stammered his words and tried to make sense, but if the ring told her anything, it would tell her that he was very nervous, terribly anxious and altogether flustered. Ely was the only person to garner such a reaction from Kiga these days, but he was still not use to it at all. His heart was busily thrumming inside his chest, not unlike the heart of a very cold sparrow who'd left just a little late in the Winter.
"It' just... you spend a lot of time there. At the Galena house I mean. And well, I miss you, but I know it means a lot to you. And I think you're good at it. Like really good at it. You were made to help people Ely, like you helped me."
Kiga swallowed. He wanted to stop talking because he was quite certain he was making no sense. But he also wanted to finish, or he might not make any sense before he was through. It was quite the vexing problem.
"It's special, like you. And I can't think of anyone else who deserves it more."

To be honest, Ely was not paying all that much attention to the ring. To begin with it was the first time she has worn it and at the moment separating Kiga's feelings from her own was damn near impossible. Truth tell, the ring could be accelerating the sensations in both of them.
Ely certainly did not feel special. She did not think she was very helpful either. As much as she had tried to make herself useful to Galena's House, a few patients here and there and keeping the place tidy was not enough, in her mind, to make up for nearly turning Lydia into a torch or Kiga for that matter.
It was a terrible morass of bad emotions. The more Kiga spoke the worse it became, too. Her ears, which had been standing upright, started to shrink closer and closer to her skull. Her tail was twisting around and around. Her voice was almost indistinct when she finally got up the nerve to say something.
"There is nothing special about me, really."
This from a brashly, confident girl who had once blown up a cigar being clamped tight by the mouth of the Sentinel's Captain.
