I agree. You're pretty much free to pick and choose.
Grayell finished his own tea and placed it upon the table he was sitting by. He thought for a moment, not entirely sure it was warranted or even appropriate.
I could say this much is true. The predator who knows first hand what it is to be prey, is a better hunter for it. A better survivor.
He contemplated his own words for a second.... and then stood. He stretched and yawned, went to get ready.

Kat's eyes narrowed slightly, then she drained her teacup and wolfed down the rest of her food. Once Grayell had left the room, she said softly, "I talked, did I not?"
Kiko had finished her portion of the meal. She was cleaning things up when Kat spoke and turned to look at her over one shoulder. She wasn't going to lie to the girl, however tense her expression.
Yes.
Kiko straightened up and turned to face her. She was expecting Katerina to be upset, anxious, and worried. She would have been, especially if she was not fully cognizant of what she had said.

Kat sighed softly and bowed her head, long strands of midnight hair falling about her face, hiding her from sight. "I had intended to explain why I was finding the presence of those wolves distressing, but... I got lost in the memories. They are powerful, even after all of this time."
You do not need to explain. Believe me. I understand just how powerful memories can be. I am not trying to belittle your pain, either. But, I think, perhaps, you should put it aside for the moment. Come, we will head into town. You'll feel better.
Town was not Kiko's choice; personally, or her Chosen's. But that certainly didn't apply to anyone else.

Grayell was somewhat puzzled, if he'd offended her he had no such intention. But he halted as he stepped onto the rail and smiled at the two of them.
Enjoy your day ladies. I'll be patrolling.
With that he stepped off and fell to the woods below, quickly vanishing into the trees about their hilltop home.

Kat's fingers swept through her hair, pushing it back over her head, and her cute, round face shone once more, though her eyes sparkled perhaps a little more than usual with tears she'd never shed. "Yes. Let us go into town."
She watches Grayell leave, thinking to herself, he treats the world as I would. Unusual.

Kiko watched Grayell walk to the balcony with a keen eye. When he dropped off and out of sight a smile was playing around her mouth. He would be patrolling in the surrounding area somewhere. But, she would find him. Later.
She turned to regard Katerina after buckling on her sword belt and catching up the helm and cloak that completed her usual gear. She did not expect any need for her sword arm on the way into Wistvale, but Kiko did not go anywhere unprepared.
Come on, Kat.
She left the treehouse by the ladder.
And, as she had surmised earlier, there was no need for her sword. Her and Katerina had no problems beyond the fact that there was an uncommon amount of traffic at the main gate. A whole slew of wagons, goods, traders, and merchants were forming haphazard lines everywhere. She had not seen this many people in one place in quite some time.
Kiko avoided them and circled around town instead by a narrow path known to just a few residents. Kiko looked over her shoulder at Kat, the path that ran toward the docks was on her far left with a motley group of citizens headed in their direction.
Kat. Might be a good idea to keep your eyes open. Seems like there is a lot going on in Wistvale, today.
Among the citizens heading for the trade caravan was Margrett, striding before the group, an amused smile as she led them. She nodded and tipped her hat to Kiko as she approached, still a fair distance away.

Kat moved away from Kiko slightly. She didn't know who this stranger was, and though she was being polite, she also put out an air of danger that made the tip of Kat's tail twitch and her ears stand up.
Kiko lifted a hand to acknowledge Margrett and headed in her direction. She was exactly the person Kiko had hoped to see when hitting the gates of Wistvale. From everything she knew Margrett would be the one to speak to about empty homes and the like that Katerina could use.
"Hello, Margrett."
Kiko pitched her voice a little higher than normal to combat the extra noise from the crowd.

"Actually, I had no idea they were here until seeing the commotion at the gate. But, I will probably wander through later. And this is Katerina, a newcomer to town. She is looking to set up a residence. Which, is why we are here."
Kiko waved her hand to indicate the surroundings. The traders were bustling around inside the walls now, jostling each other for the best spots on the main thoroughfare. The sounds had increased and the hubbub of excited citizens was gaining volume.
"Kat, this is Margrett Wistvale's Guard Captain."
Kiko wasn't quite sure how to describe her otherwise.

Kat smiled her bright, cute smile up at Margrett, "it is a pleasure. Katerina Macri."
Kat's ears suddenly went back, and her small hand flickered out, catching a questing hand looking for her purse. She looked at the opportunistic thief and shook her head, then pushed him away.
Margrett blinked, cocking her head at the thief as he scurried away.
You're fast, ma'am. Good. You'll go far in this town.
She hesitated. There was something about Kat's stopping the thief she didn't like. It was as if she knew what to do because she knew what she would have done. A natural thief. But she smiled, pushed it aside, and looked back to town as if thinking.
Let's see...that Shen kid cleared town after the talking book incident, so that place is still open. I think there's a shanty down by the docks and the clocktower has a space if you don't mind the draft.
