Kat smiled briefly at the idea of food and a home, then her expression collapsed into that look of claw-rending, protective fury again. She moved quickly up to Kiko in a sinuous, fluid movement and snuffled at her friend, picking up the same heavy scent lingering over the faint sweet flower and Human odour that Kiko put out. "I can smell them on you, too. Did they come after you? Are you hurt?"
Kiko's eyebrow went up with surprise. Hm. She should have thought of scent. It didn't occur to her that Kat would be able to smell the wolf none of the other inhabitants of Wistvale did. That was a mistake on her part. Kiko headed inward to the fire, though she did turn her head to speak.
No. Kat. I'm not hurt. Wolves will never hurt me.
Her voice was calm if sparse. She was hoping to reassure the other girl or at least stop this line of conversation. The fact that she ran around as a wolf most of the time was not common knowledge, or something she was willing to share. Yet. She'd ignored her cautious behavior once, at the hot springs. It was an impulse, and she probably shouldn't have done it. She'd taken pains not to be seen changing since. From now on she was going to carry some of the herbs the Wolf used when masking his trail.
Kiko was just beginning to like Katerina. She did not trust her.

Kat snuffled once more, then sneezed and finally settled down. "Sorry, sorry... I had... bad experienced with wolves when I was younger. I suppose you heard me before. I was trying to warn them away; I know this is your home, I am not claiming this as my territory."
No reason to apologize Kat. I had a bad experience myself. Besides, it's understandable if you felt spooked. So, how about we have some breakfast then, hm?
Kiko had taken the time to straighten her appearance. She remove her boots beside the fire, brushed the dirt of her legs and feet. She washed her hands and face from a basin in the same area, too.
We don't keep much food on hand, but I think I can round up some fruit and sweet bread.

Kat blushed and said softly, "that would be nice, thank you."
Her natural diet was rather heavier on meat and fish, but starvation times had taught her to take anything she could get her paws on. After Grayell's reaction last night, she hesitated a moment before she said, "I could quickly go and hunt something down if you would like as well?"
Not being sure how the offer would be received, Kat looked slightly downward, a pink blush on her cheeks.

If you like, Kat. I will have tea and sweet bread when you return.
Kiko's breath was more rhythmic now. She'd managed to steer the conversation away. She turned to the other girl, face and body backlit by the fire.
Good luck.

Kat beamed up at Kiko then, quite suddenly, threw herself off the edge of the platform. Her foot hooked onto one of the posts of the railing and swung her down into the trunk of the tree. Her claws dug in and she climbed swiftly down. She crouched on all fours, raised her head and scanned the area around her
Downwind of her, thankfully, and not too bad a distance, she spotted a group of rabbits foraging. She made a soft growling noise that was more like a cough than anything else, and faded from view, stalking through the undergrowth. Only observant eyes could see her move up upwind from the trio of rabbits foraging through the shrubs. Three silver shapes streaked through the air with a low hiss, and the three rabbits collapsed dead.
Kat retrieved her throwing knives and the dead rabbits. She took them to the base of a tree nearby to skin and clean them, working quickly in the dawn light with fine strokes of her blade., wiping the knives clean on the grass. She'd have to clean and hone them properly later.
She realised, in the end, that she'd brought no twine with her. Improvising, she cut strips from the skin and tied the rabbits together before she climbed back up to the treehouse.

While Kat was off finding something a little tastier than bread and fruit Kiko had made tea, banked the fire, and warmed up the dark bread. She had drizzled honey and cinnamon over the top of it, too. She could have wished for a handful of nuts, but, well she really needed to restock the supplies. It had been a mild thought before, but something she truly must make time to do.
Her eyes went to the pile of furs on the bed and her breath sighed out. She missed Grayell. He was such a powerful presence in this place. She could feel him, of course, the bond gave her that. And while it might sooth during quiet wanderings alone it did not here where his scent was stamped all over. Kiko straightened things that did not need to be straightened; all of which smelled like him. She shook her head and went out toward the balcony.
She glanced down at the bracer on her arm the early afternoon shadows were playing hide and seek with the steel, light gleaming off it. Kiko focused her thoughts.
(Wolf? I am taking Kat into town hopefully find her a new home.)
She did not know if he was in a position to answer her. Still, she felt better for speaking. She turned her mind to Kat afterwards. The thief had yet to return. Kiko decided to settle down and wait. The girl had seemed capable, easy-going, but for the worry about wolves, good company.

Kat appeared back over the railing, a strip of raw rabbit skin held in her teeth, three skinned and dressed rabbits dangling from it. She padded over to Kiko and presented them to her. "Do you have a spit rod we could put these on, maybe? What I mean is, I can eat it raw but most people do not prefer that I know."
Kiko laughed. She showed Kat the table where the Wolf skinned and dressed any meat he caught. There were a couple of the spears she needed, along with an assortment of herbs he'd stacked up and strung to dry.
We don't have to eat them raw, Kat.

Kat pulled some wild sage and savory out of the bunches and stuffed two of the rabbits with it, leaving the third plain. Thus prepared and swiftly skewered, the rabbits soon found themselves placed above the fire to cook.
A howl pierces the very sky through the forest and around the treehouse, a longing yet proud song that stirs the birds and skitters the small game into their tiny homes in the underbrush and trees.
Such a call went misunderstood by all but his kin and was meant for none but his mate.... which she knew immediately. He would be home soon enough, but that howl shouted to the world his pride, his happiness, his being with her.
She could likely tell just how far off he was too, which is nice. Heh.
Kiko's eyes slide outward from the fire to the balcony.
She knew that sound like she knew the beat of his heart. It's a good thing Kat already caught the rabbits, too. For there would have been no small game to find after that howl.

Grayell wandered in from the surrounding woods a short while later, his hands busy in his pouch for a moment. He turned back to smile at his home and the smell of rabbit. the glow of the fire inside making the treehouse altogether magical.
The rope ladder groaned as he climbed and once done, he let his hair loose, ducking to enter the sitting area. He looked to Kiko and Katerina with a pleased smile.
