The tracks probably wouldn't be relevant; it happened long enough ago that it had rained and mostly washed away the footprints and wagon tracks. Maybe a very experienced tracker could tell certain tracks apart, but it was well beyond Orp to do so.
The well itself still had red stains on it, morbidly. The report said they'd searched around the well and recovered his belongings. Nothing had been stolen, but nothing had been dropped around the well to finger a suspect other than the markings on his skin.

Orp looks for the cheapest way to get to Highever within a day. Walking? Maybe catch a group already going that way. He could hire a horse. Walking would definitely be cheaper but sleeping out in the cold at night would outweigh an empty pocket.
Orp remembers that the leader of the Sharks mentioned the coach from Highever was in town, at the inn.
The wind picks up, and the rope holding the bucket in the well moves back and forth, making the bucket tap gently against the inside of the well.

In the well he saw something glimmering, in the shallow water at the bottom. It looked like some sort of large coin or disc.

Orp judged the distance to the bottom and tried to think of ways to grab the coin. If the bucket was still in tact and usable that was an option. He could get a local boy to shimmy down the well and throw it up to him. They tend to yell or get saved by dogs if you didn't pay them though. Maybe a long stick with a hooked end or something sticky.
The bucket, rope, and pulley assembly seemed stable if Orp wanted to risk it, or he could head back and get someone to do it. One would cost him gold, the other would not.

It seemed to be working, the bucket was strong enough and the pulley was well-made. It creaked a tiny bit but stayed strong.

He reaches the bottom with no trouble, landing in ankle-deep water. The shiny object is a badge. Orp recognizes the symbol of Highever along with some other finery on it, probably meaning that it was a sports badge.

The pulley creaked and swayed a little as he pulled himself out, but it held.
He headed into town, and to the tavern. It was clear there was a small party going on, loud voices and laughter from the corner, surrounding a man in finery, obviously not from around here.
