"So you say. Why don't we go together? I have some business there as well."
She would have considered herself clever, but this was hardly even entertaining as a circuitous route to get where she needed. It almost felt like cheating.
Something told Celephai this was going to be a very long trip. This positive attitude of his mostly grated on her nerves, but it was a necessary pain. She'd be his friend... for now.
They spent most of the night traveling, him never shutting up, babbling about various things. As sunrise approached, they came to a cliff overlooking a vast forest. Eli laughed and ran toward the cliff, spreading his arms as the sun peeked over the horizon.
See? This is order. Every night the sun goes down, and every morning it comes up. Like clockwork. Beautiful and different every time.
Celephai shook her head. This was getting to be too much.
"If it's different than the one before it, then it's not regular, and thus, can't be described as clockwork! It's chaos! It does not apply to any system or regularity! It's chaos!"
She slowly caught up with him, gazing out toward the sunrise. It wasn't exactly chaos, but it ran close enough to it to be called such. Besides, it could explode at any moment, for great hilarity.
"So, where's this battle site you were speaking of? I'm eager to witness the spot where the armies of heaven fight the legions of hell."
It comes up and down due to a complex but definable system of rules and laws that govern the very fabric of space and time. He looked at her and smiled.
Order. He pointed back into the forest.
Just beyond there, in the forest.
He stood at the edge of the cliff and jerked his head over it, reaching out for her hand.
He took her hand and took a running leap off the cliff, laughing as he pulled her down.
To her surprise, instead of falling, they seemed to sink slowly down. He laughed like a child as they spun in the wind. It would take them a while to reach ground.
Her powers of precognition did not fail her, it seemed. Yes they were falling slowly, but they were still falling. Celephai was going to smack him when they finally hit the ground, but she wasn't stupid enough to do it this high up.
"You just couldn't have done this the easy way, could you?"
Her tone was calm, collected, maybe even bored. It was magic, no doubt, but it just seemed completely... unnecessary.
The moment they both hit the ground and situated themselves, Cel quickly brought a hand across his cheek. It was not a hard slap, but it would certainly be enough to make him think twice.
"That was for going off of the cliff without so much as a cautionary word."
Now she just hoped he wasn't going to break down and cry.
