Zane stands completely still for a little while and just studies the way the fish are moving... He gets used to their odd movements, and holds his stick, but not betraying any hint of what he's gonna do. Suddenly he sees a fish stop to nibble at a piece of moss or kelp or something, and he plunges the sword towards it, aiming so as to catch it when it tries to avoid him
......and he misses. It was getting on dark now and Zane was without supper. The sun dropped behind the trees and whilst their was light in the sky, the water grew dark and cold.
He could smell Grayell's fish already on the fire.
Zane tries to calm himself down and spends a little bit longer trying to spear the fish as best as he could, not being able to understand what he was doing wrong
Grayell chuckles and points to a pot hanging above the fire.
Fish stock. It's better than nothing, will warm you up. We have some of those nuts left as well. I want you to think about it a while, then take a guess at why the fish see you coming. It's very important.
Zane takes out his cup and scoops some of the fish stock into it, and sips it while he thinks
"Honestly? I'm not sure. I tried everything I could think of besides hiding my shadow... This is just one of those times where I have to say that I am honestly and truly stumped"
No. In fact, you have most the tools you need to do well. You're conditioned, you form isn't half bad and you don't hold your sword like a limp slug anymore. You're almost done training with me... basic training anyways.
Nah, it's the done thing. You pass it on or it dies out. You know, my master taught me that if a student does not one day surpass your own skill, you have failed as a teacher.
But right now, I'm off to sleep. Have a good one. Your night for keeping the fire up.
Grayell got up, stretched, and cralwed into his tent.
Zane nods and sits by the fire for a little while before standing up and pulling some wood over to it. He takes out his sword and spends a little while going through the exercises, enjoying the feel of them, before putting the wood onto the fire and crawling into bed.
