Having decided to set down roots in Wistvale, Alec searched the myriad run down shacks, finding one nearly to his liking. The inside lined with empty shelves, and a rotted mattress on the floor.
Come in under the shadow of this red rock, and I will show you something different from either your shadow at morning, striding behind you, or your shadow at evening, rising to meet you. I shall show you fear in a handful of dust.
Grayell swung by Alecs. If anyone could help him with some information, it was the resident scholar. He knocked on the door and waited.

Grumbling, Alec rolls over on the floor. Getting hands under him, he pushes up and scrambles to his feet. Stumbling to the door, he leans on a shelf near it and pulls it open, pushing hair out of his eyes. Seeing Grayell, he stands up a bit straighter. "Councilman?" he asks. "Or is this a personal visit?"

This is a personal matter Alec. I need you to research something for me... a certain symbol. It shouldn't be very hard.
In return, the council has confiscated more than a few books and tones - that sort of thing as evidence. We no longer need them and you're more than welcome to them if you like.
That or I can pay.

"Well," Alec says, rubbing at his chin. "I might already know what the symbol is. Though I doubt it, knowing my luck." He shrugs, and pushes himself off of the shelf, which tears off the wall and crashes to the floor. Glaring at the mess, he buries his head in his hands. "Fix it later. Take me to this symbol."

Grayell smiles and walks with him to the council building.
It's not a symbol I have, but one I require. I have the information you will need, you only need to look.
Grayell explains precisely what it was which put Alec's mind at rest and actually solicited a laugh. It shouldn't be hard given the nature of it and the correct books.
After some choice selections and a couple of trips with a cart, Grayell and Alec have moved much of the library from the council hall back to Alec's home.
Well then. If you have what you need Alec, I will be back later.

Looking at the now not-so-empty shelves, Alec smiles. "Yes," he says, turning to Grayell, "I believe I've got everything I need. Something of this nature.....give me a few hours." Glancing outside, he shrugs. "Midday, maybe. I should be done, or mostly so, by then."

Midday? Marvelous. I need to see a man about a dog. Thank you Alec.
Grayell takes his leave.

"A man about a-" Alec begins, but notices he's gone. "A man about a dog?" he says aloud. "What in sanity's name..." Sighing, he cracks open an appropriate book and sets a sheaf of parchment out with an inkwell.

Crumpled parchment litters the floor in front of Alec, as does a spilled inkwell and ink-soaked quill. "No, the line doesn't go..." He crumples another sheet, and grabs another off a stack next to him. Putting a short stick of charcoal to the paper, he begins sketching again. Several minutes later, he glances down at his work, then into a book open next to him. Back at the paper. Back into the book. After a moment, he smiles, and holds up the parchment. "Damn I'm good," is all he says.

Grayell swung by again, carrying all manner of cloth and string and knocked on the door before entering.
You ah... done with that Alec?

Rising from the floor, Alec turns and presents the parchment to him. "You bet I am. I'm a scholar not an artist, so it's not really perfect in the representation, but it's true to what I'm being told by my books." He places a finger against his nose. "And books don't lie. Well, not usually."

Grayell takes it, manages to hold it amongst the other clutter he is carrying and nods.
I owe you one Alec. Enjoy the books.
And with that he leaves, whistling.

"Wonder what she'll think," he says aloud, then shrugs. He walks back into the main room and pulls a random book off of a shelf. Settling against a wall, he cracks the front cover and begins to read.
