Shen was quite impressed with Argent's alertness, for once it seemed he hadn't been thrown to the wolves with some overgrown runt with a daddy complex and little desire to contribute beyond hitting blunt object A with blunt object B. That being the case, he answered Argent but didn't interrupt his questioning of the woman, who had average looks really.
"I think this is a terrible idea. But we've taken a coin, I imagine we're obligated to see where this leads. Or at least entertain her."
Shen would have no compunctions about abandoning the woman, should this become as poor an idea as it seemed.
However, that sudden noise was strange. Shen was familiar with the sound that arrows made, as they made very little at all. That said, he couldn't quite put his finger on what the noise was but regardless, searched their surroundings for the source of the noise, his hand unfastening his weapon and letting it hang loosely from his waist. Well, more loosely.
The Half elf calmly turned around to respond them both once they finished speaking, unaware of the noise as she was listening to them, while at the same time Shen had turned around to see what the noise was to only have a large shuriken fly right past his face and hit the woman on her left shoulder hard enough to knock her off her feet and onto a wall.
By the direction the shuriken came from, Shen could see the bushes moving but did not get a clear sight of what was hiding behind it. It seemed to be leaving the position it was at.
The woman grabs her shoulder in immense pain as blood begins to slowly flow out of the wound. Her eyes afraid of what was happening.
They are here! We must get out of here quickly before they all get here!

"I fought the law and then I was broken out... Is that a bad thing?"
Shen spat as he fell back, away from the origin of the attack and behind Argen't defensive line, as Argent's choice of weaponry indicated he were better suited to defending a calculated retreat. Still, Shen had no idea where they were going.
He offered a hand to the now injured woman, he helps her from the wall before lifting his hands skyward and then lowering them, his lips uttering a quick blessing in preparation. A sudden light swims over Shen, then dissipates as the effect takes hold.
- Minor Blessing (Lvl 3)- Effect: The mage calls on divine power to infuse an ally with a holy energy, improving their potential in combat. Range: 12 feet. AOE: One target. Cast Time: Immediate. Power: + 2 to speed and all aplied combat Talents. This effect lasts five minutes.
"Lead the way, won't you? If we're to escort you, we'll need some direction."
Shen managed a smirk then, though it wasn't a comforting one. His head turned to find Argent.
When he saw the woman struck by the shuriken, he spun to face the direction it came from and raised his shield to cover his body and brought his spear around to rest at the worn spot along its edge, using the shield almost as a second hand to guide and support the weapon. He shifted his feet to better place himself between the attackers and Shen and the woman.
"Agreed.
You lead, and I'll follow."
As the others began to move, he would slowly back up, being sure to keep himself between them and the attackers. Should they ever get to a point where they were behind other cover he would turn to face the direction he was heading to move more quickly.
I was born, shortsword in my hand.
Behind a shield, I'll make my final stand.
The woman nods to Shen and takes his hand to get back on her feet. Her life was now in their hands. She felt the mystical energy enter her body and give her force to keep moving. Pointing towards the direction to guide them towards her destination, she begins to walk towards it, the whole time staying behind the cover of Argent and Shen.
Just as they were about to reach the trees cover, branches are seen and heard moving from their opposite direction, no where close where the shuriken was thrown from, as a large Soren comes out into the open.
He wore a white wooden mask over his face, a thick fur coat over his wide shoulders, and black leather gloves on his hands that held a large two handed sword. The Soren stopped for a few seconds as he stared at them not saying a word and then he began to walk towards them slowly.

"I fought the law and then I was broken out... Is that a bad thing?"
Shen halts when another stranger happens on the scene and strangest of all, says nothing as he looks to simply walk up to the group in flight. Shen unwinds Cron Varna from his waist line now and clutches at the sickle, his other hand winding the chain about it twice. His feet shift defensively and his voice is cold.
Argent halted as well when Shen stopped to address the Soren that was stalking towards them. He kept his shield and spear raised, ready to change his grip if need be to be able to throw his spear at the man.
"That makes at least two by my count.
Care to tell us why these people are after you?"
I was born, shortsword in my hand.
Behind a shield, I'll make my final stand.
The Soren remained silent as he kept taking steps forward towards the group. The woman held her sword up ready to fight as well, but had trouble doing so with the injured shoulder.
They want my treasure! I can not let them have it.... We should run.
She seemed pretty scared to stick around and fight her attackers. Looking back at the woods behind her then back at the Soren, she then sprints away from them and runs towards the direction she was heading before they stopped. That is when a Hashieth flanks them from their right side with two unique daggers in each hand.
SHE IS GETTING AWAY!
On their left side a human mage comes out into the open.
Hesai! Let her go, we will deal with these two first. Venar will track her.

"I fought the law and then I was broken out... Is that a bad thing?"
"And now three, possibly four. This woman better pay well."
He set his stance, ready to receive an attack from whichever was closest. He eyes scanned them as they approached so that he might shift his facing if another were to attack him instead.
"Look. She's got protection now. So why don't you make like good little bandits and scurry off for easier prey!"
I was born, shortsword in my hand.

Shen spat his frustration, but then took a deep breath and straightened up. His weapon hung loose as he removed his glasses and, producing a clean cloth from his pocket, wiped the lenses clean. Holding them up and looking through them, he sighed before he spoke.
"Really, must we all resort to violence? I haven't had a bite to eat all morning and this is just tiresome."
Nodding, he slipped his glasses on once more and then, held out his hands a palm pressed toward each newcomer in this conflict.
"Besides, spellfire just doesn't help my appetite."
(Spellfire is a common term for the smell and other associated effects from aggressive spell use.)
The Soren kept taking steps towards them as his heavy footsteps can be heard the more he got closer, not to mention his heavy breathing as well. He finally stops just a few feet away from them. The Other two did not seem to advance either as if they were waiting for an order to attack or something. By now both Shen and Argent were circled in.
Hesai, the Hashieth, was the only one with an evil grin looking at them.
"You see! They are her protection! Orders are orders! Lets kill them right here and now and catch up to Sarirhet. Venar can't handle her alone."
He seemed ready to attack, as he leaned forward ready to charge them when the Soren raised his large sword and smashed it onto the ground with alot of force behind it, getting everyone's attention. Having planted the sword onto the ground, he rested one hand on its butt end, and then he spoke in a very deep voice behind the mask.
"No!... We will wait for Sinai's orders."
The mage speaks afterwards, looking at Shen. His voice was calm, compared to the other two.
"There is no need for violence, so long as you do not look for it."

"I fought the law and then I was broken out... Is that a bad thing?"
He kept his shield raised between himself and the Soren, since he was the closest. As he spoke he held his spear ready as he scanned the giant of a man for the best place to strike if need be.
"So says the people who made the first strike. Unless you mean to tell us she threw the shuriken at herself!
Stand down and walk away. I assure you we are more trouble than its worth."
In actuality, he was thinking it was the opposite and was quickly regretting being suckered in by a child with a coin.
I was born, shortsword in my hand.

Hesai laughs at the other Haisheth's words. He did not seem so intimidated by Argent's words at all.
"Hahaha. And now he is giving us orders?... I would really like to see how much "trouble" you two can really be."
The mage speaks up, trying to cool things down before they got out of hand.
"Hesai! Hold your tongue."
"No! You hold yours! These guys are clearly working with Sarirhet, and the more they hold us back here, the further she will get and harder to catch up with." Said Hesai.

"I fought the law and then I was broken out... Is that a bad thing?"
His eyes flick quickly to the aggressive Haisheth. He gives a wink and a lopsided smile.
"Mind your elders, boy. There's no need for violence here. Go your way and we go ours.
Just thought I'd warn you that if 'your way' happens to be past us and after that woman, we'll have to stop you."
He readied himself to have to shift his shield to block an attack from the Haisheth, as he appeared to be the most aggressive of the lot. He was fully aware that his words may just push him over the edge into action. Hopefully the mage with them would ba able to quell the youth so they could end this reasonably.

(Please don't skip me in critical situations that may involve pending harm to myself, I'd like to have some control over how that all kicks off.)
Shen stepped up beside Argent, ignoring the advantage the shield bearer gave him, which might seem odd. Or it might serve a purpose. Placing a hand on Argent's shoulder, he studies their ambushers and shakes his head, then addresses the supposed mage in the group (how do we know he's a mage?)
"Leash your dog. We've little in the way of information and have no blasted idea what we've walked into. If your intent on killing the woman, I'm curious as to why - surely any crimes she's committed are subject to some judicial process.
Which brings me to two pressing conclusions. This is either personal, in which case I want nothing to do with the matter. One lousy coin does not buy loyalty. Otherwise, you're hired killers and I imagine you'll be wanting to take us down regardless. So let's all act like big, brave adults and settle on just what's to transpire, yes?"
Shen kept his hand on Argent's shoulder and whilst Shen spoke in a flat, bored manner, Argent could tell he was quite tense. What he couldn't know, is that Shen had a plan and it didn't end with the pair of them being killed.
