I think for our game purposes, we are trying to stay as simple as possible in how things interact as we try to focus more on RP then on the stats.
in the real world, or in a system with stats, yes Brawn and possibly endurance would be a factor in combat.
In our system tho, to keep things simple we look at it this way
Weapon Talent Skill = IF you hit/How well you hit.
The Weapon itself = The possible damage done when you hit.
Allowing Brawn to be factored in opens up a whole can or worms that could lead to neverending complexity and confusion. Why wouldnt Sped allow extra attacks/actions? etc...
That being said, there is always the chance that there may be items (including weapons and armor) that will have stat requirements to use.
"Must have Brawn X to wield" For example In which case the requirements would be factored into the ability of the item itself. Have the skill and you can use this, dont have it and you cant. Again, keeping it simpler...
Not quite. From the rules:
The easiest way to understand this is as follows: Combat talents factor into whether you hit and how well. Gear factors into how much damage is done. Just remember, nothing is measured and Talents are just a guideline for what's reasonable.
Gear contributes to damage, of course. It's not the sole factor.
To elaborate on this a little more Miro, consider this. If you're using a big double hander, you have the appropriate combat talent for that weapon's use. That would indicate your intention is to cleave people in half.
Same as finesse for me, means I am more quick with my strikes.
That is why the combat talents were changed, so they don't need other skills.
I see. I mean, I probably am thinking too much. Heh. Its not a really big deal or anything. My over-thinking just led to a concern is all. We will see how it plays out and what I think in the actual application.
Death is no more than turning us over from time to eternity. Whether that eternity is damnation or salvation is determined in the time we have.
lol, i have to take ramir's side here. miro you givin it way too much thought. and besides, you dont have to be wicked strong to swing finesse weapons quickly for example. its also technique and just your skill with the sword. you can also be massively strong and not able to swing it quickly if your a person without any feel for the thing.
i love new skill list as well as (especially) the race list. I didn't have much of a say because i knew I would be fine with it and had too much to do in real life anyway.
as far as the magic, I actually like a set list of skills. Makes magic more accessable to new players. the new magic classes are way better than the old simply elemental stuff, good job. The new classes also give you a better idea of how and why your character would possess such abilities.
Indeed, once all my reallife stuff is sorted out, I fully intend to create a second character that is a magic user, just seems very interesting now.
She started dancin' real slow, like she was puttin' on a show.
Wet sweat was pourin' off her skin, her body made me wanna sin.
Right then my buzz was kickin' in, she had a devil's grin.
She looked me in the eye and said: You give me the urge!
To do a little day drinkin'
A little bit of love makin'
A whole lot of world shakin'
'Cause it's never too late to get low down dirty!
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Low Down Dirty
Wow, thank you for your input! I think the update is quite the improvement and if one thing is true - I will always look to improve and make the game more accessible.
So it occered to me this morning how to maybe better answer Miro's concerns.
Skills like Brawn and Speed etc...dont effect combat in a tangible way as expressed already. But they could, and should express how you RP the combat.
Meaning characters with high brawn should rp their combat as hard powerful strokes. Perhaps that brawn is part of the reason your weapon skill is what it is kinda thing...
One character has high brawn so his attacks are slower, but stronger.
Another has low brawn, but high speed or Gymnastics. Their attacks arent as powerful, but quicker and possibly more accurate (in RP)
In the end the combat effectiveness is the same, its just hows its RPed
