Alec [M:118:6:][D3v:http://rpgmenagerie.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=cs&thread=412&page=1#1242]"I see," said the blind man to the deaf lady.[0:Wandering the stacks.][1:Present and accounted for.]
"Oh, fantastic." Alec slaps a palm to his forehead. "A necromancer. And corpses." Poking one, tentatively, he shrugs. "Albeit raggedy ones. I assume you either want us to fight you, or do something extremely difficult for you." Looking at the gore surrounding him, Alec sniffs. "Or just kill us and add to the collection. So, which one is it, Mr. Bald-Scary-Man?"
Come in under the shadow of this red rock, and I will show you something different from either your shadow at morning, striding behind you, or your shadow at evening, rising to meet you. I shall show you fear in a handful of dust.
She glanced once more around the room at the bodies, silently hoping that Alec was wrong, and that this man did not want to add them to his "collection." She then turned back to the man, narrowing her eyes, awaiting a response.
The man stepped forward with cold, dead eyes and looked at them both, up and down. His face was expressionless, a void.
"I have been contracted to do a job. This scum, these criminals, they are mere tools. I would know your allegiance. Do you come from Wistvale?"
Alec [M:118:6:][D3v:http://rpgmenagerie.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=cs&thread=412&page=1#1242]"I see," said the blind man to the deaf lady.[0:Wandering the stacks.][1:Present and accounted for.]
Alec's mouth falls open. "You mean......big, bald, mace-wielding necromancer......DOESN'T want us dead? FANTASTIC!" he shouts. "But yes," he says gaining a bit of composure. "Yes, we're from Wistvale. My name is Alecsander Greenwood, and this lovely lady is Rue- well, I'm afraid I didn't catch your last name. But anyway, yes, we're from Wistvale."
Come in under the shadow of this red rock, and I will show you something different from either your shadow at morning, striding behind you, or your shadow at evening, rising to meet you. I shall show you fear in a handful of dust.
"Rue Vera," Rue said, not taking her eyes off the man. "A cart traveling into our town was ambushed in the woods earlier today, we came in here looking for the attackers."
She paused for a moment, then continued, her bow still aimed at him.
"What kind of 'job' must you do? Have you anything to do with the cart that was attacked?"
The man looks at Rue sideways and shakes his head. Again, expressionless.
"Put that away. I don't want to hurt you girly, unless I am getting paid. Seems I am."
He hefts his mace onto his shoulder and walks toward them, halving the distance.
"I have been contracted to send a message to the newly formed council in Wistvale. Certain parties are unhappy with their new laws. Certain parties want them eradicated. I intend to send a strong message. Unless you have a better idea, your heads on a couple of poles should suffice...."
Again. "God dammit man, really? That's what these people had in mind, and you murdered all of them. WHAT THE HELL?! Make up your bloody mind, you PSYCHOPATH!"
Stopping himself, Alec straightens up, having leaned forward to yell. "Ahem. Right. Sorry about that. So then, you ARE going to try and kill us. Right?"
Come in under the shadow of this red rock, and I will show you something different from either your shadow at morning, striding behind you, or your shadow at evening, rising to meet you. I shall show you fear in a handful of dust.
"You tell me to put away my weapon, but then tell us you're going to kill us?" Rue laughed in spite of herself and kept her bow where it was. "Let's keep talking. Why did you kill these people?" She motioned to the bodies around the room.
"I told you, they are but tools. A means to an end. Criminal scum. If you both insist, we can fight. You seem to have no alternative."
He rose his mace once more - and another handful of corpses rattled to life. Now they were surrounded.
Alec [M:118:6:][D3v:http://rpgmenagerie.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=cs&thread=412&page=1#1242]"I see," said the blind man to the deaf lady.[0:Wandering the stacks.][1:Present and accounted for.]
"Huh," Alec says, tucking a hand under his chin. He unfurls a finger and taps it over his pursed lips, a faraway look in his eyes. "Well. We either give ourselves up to you, and die. Or we fight you and your - raggedy - corpses. However will I choose?" he says, mock concern.
Thinking for a moment, he glances to Rue. "We are fighting, aren't we? I mean, I am. But are you?"
Come in under the shadow of this red rock, and I will show you something different from either your shadow at morning, striding behind you, or your shadow at evening, rising to meet you. I shall show you fear in a handful of dust.
Rue shuddered as the corpses rose up from the ground but she remained where she was, with her bow still pointing at the man. She hoped, however, that before a fight broke out she could gain a little more information.
"Who sent you here? What 'parties' are you representing?"
"Not part of the contract. Better I don't know. I work for gold and that's all that concerns me. Now, since neither of you have a better idea, can we get back to me beheading you?"
Alec [M:118:6:][D3v:http://rpgmenagerie.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=cs&thread=412&page=1#1242]"I see," said the blind man to the deaf lady.[0:Wandering the stacks.][1:Present and accounted for.]
"So, someone contracted you to take out the council, and you don't have any idea who or what they are?" Pausing for a beat, Alec shrugs. "Sounds good. You got a receipt or the contract on you? It'd be really helpful in figuring out who's behind this after we kill you."
Come in under the shadow of this red rock, and I will show you something different from either your shadow at morning, striding behind you, or your shadow at evening, rising to meet you. I shall show you fear in a handful of dust.
Rue was unmatched with the bow and her shot hit him square in the face at this range. The man in front of them stumbled back, stopped and then reached up, snapping the shaft of the arrow off, the head still embedded somewhere inside his skull.
