Physical Description: 4'10, 167 lbs. of rock-solid muscle. He is covered from neck to toe in ominious looking black runes that seem to have an unnatural shine to them. He covers these up with basic leather armor under a thick black cloak. This dwarf seems a bit of a dark, brooding type at first sight- until he has his ale, and then he's everyone's friend. He fears nothing, but he certainly isn't very keen on being in water and he doesn't like heights (mountains notwithstanding), as he feels too far from his precious Earth.
Born under the mountains north of Lorne, in the dwarven city of Dhugdhirth, Dieter was a precocious child. While all dwarves, especially the craftsmen, worship Idrise most prominently, Dieter was born during the twilight between night and sunrise; As such, his goddess protector and chief deity is not Idrise, but her sister, the goddess of the night Orlune.
When it became clear to his parents that he had a predisposition towards magic, fairly rare among dwarves, the training he received was naturally in Earth, the most dwarven element, and Dark magic, those magics most associated with night and therefore Orlune. Dieter was trained by his mentor and godfather Gunnar, his father's greatest friend and a master of magics, who bestowed upon Dieter his own amulet, a symbol of Gunnar's pride in Dieter. The amulet had been passed down from to Gunnar from his own mentor, who received it from his mentor, and so on for generations. It is today a symbol of great pride to Dieter, and the name of Gunnar is only invoked by Dieter with much respect.
Dieter left his home behind because of his need for adventure. Sitting underground in an incredibly fortified dwarven fortress-city is safe, but it is not safety that Dieter craves- it is friendships forged in the heat of battle, and knowledge gathered from across the world; it is new ales, and new women; it is riches, and treasures, and tales to tell his dwarf kin upon his triumphant return; it is glory, and his name in the histories that will be studied generations after he is not unlike the ash from Idrise's forge.
