Kiga was not holding her hands so tightly that she could not pull them loose with ease, but when she did so it snapped him back from concern and once more into the deep end of his predicament. She looked at him with awfully wide eyes and he stopped, stammered and stared.... and then blushed.
He pulled his hands in and tucked them under his armpits immediately, then looked to the floor beside himself. Suddenly his balance didn't seem quite so keen.
Oh.
Ummm.... sorry.

Ely's brow wrinkled up. But, whatever surprise she'd felt by him dropping straight down and taking her hands was over quickly. In fact, she had to smile. He'd come down out of the dark. And was he blushing?
"Sorry?"

Oh goddamit Kiga, get it together man. Seriously, she was just being friendly. Leave her alone and stop thinking about it, she had other people to talk to right? Surely Orp was her type, or Margrett or someone or something...
Yeah. That's it. You're drawing attention to yourself. Stop it. Act.... normal. Normal! That's easy enough right?
Kiga nodded and managed a weak smile but concealed his nervousness behind tightly shut eyes. He waved in a rather enthusiastic, animated manner, leaning a little forward as he did so.
So nice to meet you miss!
His eyes were still closed and remained as much until he spun on his heel and faced the bar. His face broke into an entirely panicked look as he walked forward and almost slammed right into it with his waist, as though his steps couldn't carry him away from the confrtontation swiftly enough.
A drink. That's what normal people did, right? Drink something? Sure. A drink was normal, he could drink it and she'd lose interest and he could then go back to being... well himself.
Oh crap. What did normal people drink? He thought fast and hard, he never drank alcohol unless the contract meant it was necessary or simply the best course of action and even then he was very adept at PRETENDING to drink.... but he had no clue what to order.
The barkeep looked at him expectantly. Kiga was sweating a little. His smile was very nervous, searching for the solution to such a silly problem...
Ummm.... I'll have whatever she's having. Thanks. I think.
That was so very simple! Order what she was drinking! The perfect solution Kiga, you're well on your way to normalcy and in no time at all, cat people's everywhere will simply let you be.
The barkeep placed the poured tankard on the counter in front of him.
Ely's mouth dropped open. That was very enthusiastic for a person who had just been blushing mere seconds before. Wow. If her thoughts had any coherency before they certainly were confused this time around. He'd not remained, and her eyes followed his path to the bar.
She could watch him move, without his knowledge. He had not just up and vanished from in front of her. Plus, her staff was sitting against the bar. Time to go retrieve it.
Ely left the table and the other people gathered around it to recover her staff. Okay, so now she was lying to herself instead of other people. Damn. This afternoon was way too strange. But, she was not bored. Ely brushed past Kiga to grab the staff. She leaned in when she did so to whisper at him.
"I wouldn't drink that if I was you. It seems to addle one's wits."

“Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.”
He might have heard her words if not for her leaning in and whispering. Whatever false composure he had mustered was simplty shot down like a Wright brothers plane in a field of flack in that instant and every ounce of comfort left his body in a hurry.
She was right here, at his side, leaning in and holy crap she brushed up against him. Kiga was feeling ready to fall face first into the bar and in his desperate need for a distraction he did the only reasonable thing.
He picked up the mug and swiftly drank it's entire contents. He buried his face in the tankard, was very much entirely distracted by his suddenly-very-urgent drink and did not so much as look at her until he had consumed every last drop.
Once done, he stood there for a moment, staring to the far wall behind the bar. It was a long, stifling silence but eventually; he turned his head to look at Ely. He seemed very relaxed. Unusual.
Ely muttered something under her breath that might have been "too late." Before glancing down the length of the bar. She looked at Margrett, and the cherry at the end of the cigar. A horrible temptation rose at that point, one she shouldn't have paid any attention to, at all.
The cherry suddenly grew, widened and consumed most of the cigar. The ash falling to the ground a mere second after.
She turned back to Kiga when he spoke, her eyes wide open and a crazy smile riding her lips.
"I was saying you shouldn't drink that. but, no matter... umm."

“Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.”
Kiga looked at Ely and shrugged. His eyes looked somewhat sleepy and his smile kind of went rather lax on one side, as did his eyebrow. He leaned on the bar then, his elbow holding him up and took a rather cool, Marlon Brando pose against it.
Nyewp. Ish no matter no more purty ladee.
Kiga giggled, closed his eyes and blinked, then looked at her again. Most important he pay attention.

Ely giggled. This was a bad, bad, thing. She could feel the change in her head, too. The emotional spike created when feeding the flame at the end of the cigar. And, Kiga's words only made the craziness rise higher. He'd called her pretty...
She grabbed a hold of his arm.
"Umm... I need to get out of here..."
Her eyes were already scanning the quickest exit out of the building.
"...why don't you come along? You can ...um ...keep me out of trouble."

Oh, wouldsh shurley be my pleashure your majeshtee.
Kiga looked at her with half alert eyes and smiled wider then, his head lolling about like a bobble head. He nodded though, in a rather strange, bouncing manner; and rose from leaning upon the bar. To head for the door. Which he certainly meant to aim for but wasn't doing quite so well. A rather tumbling, stumbling half circle later, the door filled his swimming vision and he smiled, standing what he thought to be quite straight. His hand led the charge.
I hash you now you shcoundrel! Shally fr! Shally fr! Shally.... forth.
The last word was rather mumbled, him holding his jaw and trying in earnest to form the word for whatever reashon. Err, reason.
She blinked, looked at the ash in her hand in surprise.
That cost me a month of saving away extra money, kitten.
She glared at Ely a moment. She was still sitting back on the bar, and let her hands fall while her elbows leaned on it. She sighed, and looked at the ground, eyes closed. The two were obviously hitting it off. It would be...almost hypocritical of her to meddle in it, as much as she disliked Kiga.
I realize I'm getting on your nerves, but destruction of property is a little severe.
As they went to leave, she rolled her eyes. Of course. She should have known.

Ely's giggles had grown to outright laughter. He was hilarious. She had no idea why the drink had effected him quite so badly. It had not done the same thing to her. Sure, it made her head swim for a little while, it had distracted her thoughts, and maybe even had her more garrulous than usual.
She shoved her narrow hip and shoulder up against Kiga's swaying body before looking back at Margrett.
"You can collect the cash another time. I'm going to help him to his bed, err, I mean house... it's only fair. Don't worry, I'm not leaving in a hurry. This place is too entertaining... Lady Smurf."
Ely giggled again, and slipped out the door of the tavern, one hand on her staff the other one keeping Kiga from clobbering his face into the door jam.

Margrett give Ely a short, blank look, instantly writing her off until further notice. Her voice turned cold and even, and she saluted with two fingers.
Good night, ma'am. Be careful out there. She turned back to the bar and ordered another drink.
