Unfortunatly Neko and Alex's backgrounds leave out the possibility for them to have already been members of a Faction before officially begining play. Both, however are highly interested in becoming members to add further story elements to the world and to themselves as characters.
Dani comes from a settlement of Elves where the House of Galena is seen as more than a place of healing, but as a religon. From a young age they are taught a close bond to nature and the goddess. They respect the natural world and learn to live with it in harmony as opposed to other societies that live off the land with little regard to how it effects the world.
She was sent to Wistvale by the clan elders to study under the House of Galena here in the hopes of gaining more understanding of how others view the goddess and her teachings. And possibly to bring the message that the House of Galena can be about more than the healing of others, but also one's connection to the world about them.
It is possible, given the prominence of the goddess in the lives of her clan that she was already a member of the House of Galena before arriving here. That being said, I think she might be on the way to gaining membership though the stories she is in already if it is decided that she wouldn't have already been a member.
"I do not aim with my hand; he who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
I aim with my eye.
I do not shoot with my hand; he who shoots with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
I shoot with my mind.
I do not kill with my gun; he who kills with his gun has forgotten the face of his father.
I kill with my heart."
Daisy [M:15:0:][D3v:http://rpgmenagerie.com/index.cgi?board=cs&action=display&thread=746]"I kill for fun and profit. What's your excuse?"
Well, apparently they have "standards" and "rules of conduct". I'm told it's "not acceptable" to burn down a few square miles of forest to get a few bandits. Nor is it "appropriate" to start burning farms and sections of a village down when the occupants are not being co-operative when you question them to the whereabouts of your quarry. Destroyed orphanages are "never" just collateral damage.
What a load of male bovine excrement.
Gold talks. Everything else walks.
"Murder" and "Justice" imply "moral judgements" based on nothing more than how the majority of people feel about the taking of another's life. I don't concern myself with such things; they're too subjective. Whether or not there's gold in my pocket is what matters.
Khorek has some small notoriety as 'Snakebite' among some of the underworld currently active in Wistvale. He could have quite easily have met with Tryst members and either exchanged information, helped with a job or been paid for work by them. I don't know if they pay with those coins of theirs and am unsure what else is involved in being a member.
I would like to think Khorek has earned some coins already and his policy of asking no question and remaining anonymous, would make him a solid prospect for the Ebon Trsyt. Or so I hope.
The promise of wealth lures many people in and none more so than a thief. Khorek has been in Wistvale some time and whilst his needs were few and his desires humble, he was growing ever more tired of being cold and too often, hungry. He did not know anyone in this town, had no connections and worse yet, had little gear to ply his trade. He did however, have his wits.
He'd spent a number of nights in a seedy pub in the docks district, listening and drinking very little. There were many things spoken though he joined in none of those conversations but finally, two men were talking over what he was looking for. A 'job'. He didn't care for all the particulars, he only cared that they mentioned how easy it should be. He noted the location, the look of the building and the time frame in which to get the job done. He had but one challenge of course, to beat them to it.
It was somewhere between the middle of the night and the dawn when Khorek stole through the large house. He'd found a compliant window to slip through and whilst the floorboards were noisy, his lithe frame and practiced steps kept the noise down to a whisper. He found it easy to navigate as he'd discovered that many of the buildings in town were often very similar in their layout and of course, he'd heard where the safe was meant to be located.
He folded up his picks and quietly stuffed them back into his thief's kit. The necklace was nothing altogether extravagant, but should he find a fence, he would eat well this month. Better yet, he might be able to turn the funds and work his way into some more promising enterprise. He dropped the necklace into the silk lining of his kit and turned to close the door to the basement behind him.
That is when he was hit.
Khorek spilled onto the stone floor, the door pushed open as he was pummeled from behind. He lay there for a second, shaking his head and then remembered to move. He tucked in a ball very easily and rolled, bounced and came upright, his bow already slipping from his back. He was not inclined to keep it strung always but when on a job, he always did. The two men from the bar spilled into the room, both presumably very upset. Their faces were concealed, but Khorek had a memory for voices.
"Who do you think you are, trying to ruin our chances?"
"No chance mate, this is our test."
Khorek had no idea what it was they were speaking of. The first would not speak ever again, as Khorek slipped to one side to avoid his attack, then loosed an arrow into the man's throat. The other almost yelled as he drove his knife toward Khorek, who now was being very wary. His bow slapped the small of the man's back as Khorek bounced over his lunge and ran, slapping the door shut behind him as he did so. The thief gave chase.
Khorek only replied with his knives as the fool stepped into the foyer, driving them both in and upward between his ribs. They were crude implements but sharped to a breath's width and Khorek knew how to kill with them well enough. There was no noise and as Khorek wiped his knives clean, he spotted the man's purse. He opened it long enough to spy the coins inside, which he noticed as altogether unusual, then stuffed the purse into his kit.
"Well done, lad." said the shadowy figure across the street.
Khorek had just closed the front doors to the house and dawn was fast approaching. He was unsure of who this new player was, but they remained in the gloom of the alleyway and made no move that alerted him.
"A strange twist on events, but it seems you've passes the test." There was a smile in those words, Khorek could hear it.
"Tell me boy, what is your name?"
Khorek thought on that a moment. This might be his best opportunity yet to make something of Wistvale. He didn't show his face but instead, approached the man and stared at him, only his yellow eyes piercing the dark.
"Snakebite. Here's your loot."
He tossed the necklace into the expectant hand of his new employer and left the scene. No doubt they would be talking again, soon.
By the way everyone, I have started working on fleshing out the factions more thoroughly. Galena is done and now up for review with staff and I shall get to each in turn. Some aren't so complex and don't need a lot of elaboration.
If you have any thoughts or suggestions on what you'd like to see, let me know.
