::Orp hears the sounds of someone or something moving about in the front room. The sounds of papers shuffled and the thud of books hitting a hard surface.::
Silent as a shadow on padded feet...

Tauer heard the footsteps in the next room and knew he had to buy himself some time. The demon unwrapped the darkness from around him and sent it through the doorway, hoping to knock the stranger back firmly, but without harm, so he could close the door before searching through any drawers or cupboards he could find.

::Tauer hears the sounds of the owner hitting the floor with a thud. The door stands open, but empty now that the owner has been knocked back.
His search of the books has so far turned up empty. All the ones he has found so far in the living area seem to be novellas or accounts of different regions of the world, none of them first hand.
Orp finds there is metal to be had. Both is the structure of the building itself (nails, hinges, etc...) and whatever personal belongings he keeps in his room (bits of wire, tools, etc...)::

Tauer winced at the sound of the stranger hitting the floor. He wasn't looking to hurt anyone. Sorry, he thought, but I have to help those kids.
The search for the ledger wasn't bringing him any luck in this room. Perhaps it wasn't in THIS room! The demon turned his attention to the next room, the one with the stranger in it. Oh, rats! He exclaimed in his head. Would this apartment's resident be the type to keep books under their mattress?
Change of plan. The demon prince hunched down beside the entrance into the next room and began forming a blanket of darkness around himself, hoping that he could hide from the stranger once they had inevitably stepped into this room.

Those damn kids had finally gotten in! Orp had warned Mrs. Bonny about the risks of the back door but she never listened, always saying that her hubby had left the door open and he never ran into any trouble. Orp could get these ruffians and finally show her!
Orp got up, and gathered some bits of wire and metal jeweler's tools in a fist. He pushed past the door and rushed into the room.

Upon seeing a figure - a rather tall figure, at that - rush past into the room, Tauer took the opportunity to try and slip behind the stranger, and shut himself in what was most likely the bedroom, where the demon would let his shadowy shroud drop. There was no point wasting energy now since he'd have to use what was left to defend himself from this fairly giant man.

Orp saw a glimpse of something moving in the shadows of the room. It wasn't a kid for sure. Could be a rare Gold-Eating Scarfinch, the merchant's worst nightmare. There was only one way to repel it.
"Mrs. Bonny! Get the salt! And a lot of it!"
Orp began to morph the bits of metal as best he could into a ball of points and barbs with a radius of a few inches floating between his hands.
Orp strode back into his bedroom to face the Scarfinch.

Tauer started to rummage around the room, doing the best he could in the dark.
Where is it? He grumbled to himself, not realizing the stranger had re-entered the room.

Orp was startled when he saw a human form and not an avian one in his room. Someone rummaging through his things. Someone one who broke in. Someone who was a
"THIEEEEF!"
Orp flicked his hand over the ball of metal bits like he was dealing cards at a casino and shot nails and whatever other waste had found its way into his hovering mesh of metal.
Tauer [M:150:160:][D3v:http://rpgmenagerie.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=cs&thread=540&page=1#18960]While the Light's away, the Shadows will play.
Tauer almost jumped out of his skin at the proclamation. I suppose that was the technical term for what the demon had become, but still, it wasn't something he liked to hear. As Tauer turned to face the tall stranger he caught a glimpse of metal; sharp and dangerous. The prince reacted almost instantly by raising a wall of darkness.
Now, now, there's no need for violence. Just hand over the small, leather-bound ledger and i'll be on my way.

::They can both hear the sounds of footsteps above them as the people in the main part of the house are roused by Orp's yelling. Orp's knowledge of the layout of the building tells him they are heading for the front door...::
