Ivy's nervousness quickly turned to annoyance and she scowled at the guard. "No one put me up to anything!" she snapped, crossing her arms over her chest as she glared around. "I came here because I WANT to join." Her breathing was heavy and noticeable, her aqua eyes turning just the slightest amount darker. "Just because Im a girl doesnt mean I dont know how to kill. I have before and Ill do it again."
Ivy's scowl grew as soon as the words 'little girl' got past the guard's lips. "I'm not a little girl!" She snapped, sending them one more dirty look before turning and making her way to the man who was pointed out to her. Keeping her head held high and shoulders back, Ivy approached the table and looked straight at the man, still too annoyed with the guard's laughter to be nervous. "Excuse me. My name is Ivy and I would like to join the Sellswords."
::Your response sends another wave of laughter through the guard and snickers from those that are still paying attention to the exchange.
Luckily there is no one else in line by the time you reach the man at the table so you don't butt ahead of anyone when you speak to him. He addresses you without looking up from the pile of papers he continues to sift through.::
Ivy scowled around at the laughter and struggled to keep her face straight as she watched the man shuffling papers. "My name is Ivanna Felice Nurmegg, Sir, and I would really like to join the Sellswords." she kept her hands at her sides and clutched at her dress, nervous.
The corners of ivy's mouth curled up slightly as she thought of her lovely weapon waiting for her to retrieve it, and the image of rushing water. "Im very skilled in archery. And Im pretty good at water magic.' She stated, pride clear in her voice as she watched the man's movements.
Ivy paused and her thoughts went out to her parents instantly. Her mom with her kind and gentle smile and worried eyes; her dad with his constant ocean scent and his pride in his daughter. She wasn't sure if she would ever see them again, and she didnt lie the thought of worrying them or upsetting them if something were to happen to her. Especially if they found out she was an assassin; should she get accepted. "No, Sir, there is not." Ivy's voice had gotten softer, but it was firm.
Ivy's eyes instantly lit up as she looked at the bows and archers. "I understand, and Ill gladly show you." You could hear the happiness in her voice. The blonde girl was thrilled to get a chance to show off her skills. Walking over to it with a smile tugging on the corners of her lips, Ivy hoped her aim would be perfect and she wouldn't mess up; joining this group was something she really wanted to do. Once at the area, Ivy got a bow and arrow and took a stance, looking towards the target. She nocked the arrow and pulled it back, aiming at the middle of the target and after inhaling deeply, she let the air out of her lungs as she let the arrow fly from the bow with a sharp 'TWANG!' that she had loved hearing since she first used a bow. She looked towards the target and then the men to see what would be said, biting her lower lip nervously.
The arrow flew fast like the furry of a god and neither a mortal eye could have hoped to catch it. However, some men are always out to prove otherwise.
All the men on deck stopped what they were doing as they saw the metal snake with its death grip firm around the arrow Ivy had just fired. The length of the strange creature followed somewhere behind the targets as the echo of heavy steps came out of hiding.
The snake's body followed into his coat and wrapped around his waist like an overextended belt. The loose wrappings made the chains rattle with every step he made toward Ivy's target.
"Check it," the stranger called out, with a low tonal rasp in his voice.
A man scrambled toward the target Ivy shot at and nervously stepped around the metal snake head that held the arrow in place, before it slowly removed it. The man looked over the spot where the arrow supposedly hit and scratched it with a finger.
"There's a nick here, she hit it..." he said somewhat nervously.
The metal snake head dropped the arrow haphazardly on the deck and reeled back into the man's coat. The timid air increased as the stranger now made his way toward Ivy, a stern look glossed over his features. His face was littered with tiny scars, notably around his mouth, with light brown stubble etched around it and his chin, echoing the messy hair that fell around his head from under his hat. His eyes were an aged light blue, with lines folding under them. They had seen better days.
The man looked over tiny Ivy as he stood above her, evaluating her like a piece of meat. The rest of the crew remained silent.
"Well, ain't that somethin'? I guess I just ain' quick enough."
Known to most of the men, the awful pun still filled them with laughter as the tension was blown away. A smile etched itself on the stranger's face.
"Name's Quick, little miss, Quick Grayson, and you're on my ship. You got yourself a killer's aim, now where did a pretty little miss like yourself learn how to do that?"
Ivy let out breath she didnt realise she had been holding, watching the man with weariness and interest. Taking another quick breath, she kept her gaze on him, trying not to look like she was intimidated. "My father taught me." she said, pride clear in her voice; both from the man's praise and speaking about her father. "I was 7 when he first started teaching me, and Ive praticed every chance I got." Ivys eyes kept darting from the man's face to where the strange snake thing had retreated back into Quick's coat. "Sir...what was that in your coat?" She decided to ask what was on her mind; her curiosity was bugging her.
Almost on cue, the metallic snake head peered from under Quick's coat. As it slithered out, the chains around the waist began to move and rattle. From the opposite end of the coat, another snake head emerged, with fangs bared and red jeweled eyes gleaming.
"My little darlings? This here is Hydra, and they've kept me safe for as long as I can remember. Also the fastest weapon on this here continent, well, as fast as my mind can will it. Your shootin' today proved I ain't as tempered as I once was."
The serpents seemed to have a mind of his own, or Quick controlled them as if they did. The twin snakes motioned menacingly all around Ivy as if looking for an opportunity to strike.
"Yessir, ain' nothing deadlier in a room than my babies, but enough about them," he said whilst the creatures slithered back into the confines of his duster.
"It's good that your daddy taught you how to defend yourself, but I still don't see why you'd want to work on this boat. Surely work can't be so scarce as to force a young lady such as yourself into a career of mercenaring.

Ivy found the metal snakes very interesting, and kept her eyes on them until they disappeared back into the man's coat; as soon as there was no metal left to be seen, aqua eyes darted up to once again meet Quick's. She hadn't been expecting to answer such a question as why she wanted to join, and her eyes quickly went from wide open in surprise to slightly narrowed in thought. After a moment, Ivy figured out the best response she could think of, aside from telling him it wasn't any of his business. The half mer looked straight at the man named Quick and answered with a clear voice. "I like adventures and the adrenaline you get from being scared. And to do it for money too, that's an added bonus."
