"If its still here to begin with, I'm more interested in finding something worth a little more. Of course I would split the profits with you if we did come across such a thing."
She followed Zane into the next room, prepping herself to be a little more focused so she could help this time around.
The next room was a long, dark hallway, lit every dozen feet or so with a dim crystal. A voice crackled above them. Unlike the other one, this was feminine, halting, and sinister.
We regret to inffffform you that the next test cham-ber is under cons-tructions ananand has been been replaced with a live fire course for military constructs. Have a goooood day.
As the voice stopped they came to a door with a large lever built into it.
Of all the graveyards in all the towns in all the world, she had to walk into mine.
Serenity didn't like the sound of constructs, she remembered the golems they used at the academy for practice. More importantly she remembered some nut job named Cain who would sick the worst of the magical beings at the students. It always surprised her how there were nearly no fatalities in that facility.
She hugged the walls of the hallway and felt for "mother earth" as she liked to call it. While she never did dwell much on spirits and magical beings, personifying the earth helped her focus her magic. "Its a study trick," she would say.
"Stay close to me doctor."

As the narrator shook his head in disgust, Serenity could feel, just beneath her fingertip, the earth lying in wait. The walls were metal, but thin n most places, and she could easily punch through it with the power of earth if need be.
Zane pulled the lever, and the door slid open into darkness. There was another yellow crystal on a table in the middle of the room, some twenty feet away.

Of all the graveyards in all the towns in all the world, she had to walk into mine.
Serenity moved along, secure that her defender was near by. The earth, not Zane. She tread carefully across the room to see if this crystal would light up as well.
As they reached the center of the room, the door slammed shut behind them. In the darkness of the room, they heard a metallic creaking and groaning. The room was large, but they couldn't tell how large. Tables and desks were strewn about everywhere, obscuring any torchlight they had.
Of all the graveyards in all the towns in all the world, she had to walk into mine.
Zane pulls out his scalpel and holds it close to his palm, then whispered to Serenity
"I don't like the sound of this... I'll go ahead and be honest with you. The magic I was talking about earlier is Blood Magic, so if I have to use it to defend us, please don't think badly of me for it."
Upon hearing the phrase, "Blood Magic," Serenity immediately called forth the earth to her side. A quake could be felt and then two earthen objects broke through the walls. Serenity backed away from Zane immediately.
The two massive rock arms, as it could be seen clearly in the torch light, formed fists and pounded the ground at either Serenity's side. They just stayed there waiting to move at her defense.
"You best explain yourself doctor, or I will call forth Death at my side next."
Zane sighs, puts away his scalpel, and sits down on the ground
"Such as it always is. At a young age, it was discovered I had a talent for blood magic. Remember my master i was telling you about? Venture? Well he was also a blood mage and taught me how to control my talents."
Zane then looks her in the eye and talked plainly
"I know how despised blood magic is, but I was being entirely honest when I said I was a doctor. I use blood magic to cleanse bad blood, and prevent my patients from bleeding out. Infected blood can be a deadly and untreatable thing. My magic has saved more people then I could count, and I have NEVER slain an innocent. The most I've ever done is defend myself when attacked on the road by highwaymen and wild beasts."
He then stood and took a step towards her, still looking her in the eye
"Please, don't hate me for my magic. We've been in this together for a little while now, can you honestly say that I seem like I go around killing people? Can you say that I seem like a murderer or a dangerous mage?"
While she was always skeptical about the spread of blood magic and the evil power it possesses, Serenity would be more the fool to not take it seriously when the issue presented itself.
She only just met Zane, believing his power is practiced for medicine strictly was a long shot. Considering what he just said however, would make sense to hide it. Still, her guard was fully up and if she must, fight Zane to the death.
Dust could be seen circling around her now, and soon it was clear a little tornado formed around her. With a loud shot she spread the wind out and threw it in all directions. The wind blast was strong enough to toss about the various tables and desks. Oddly the least amount of strength was thrown at Zane, not budging him at all.
"We're stuck in here, but that doesn't mean I'll trust you now regardless of what you say about your blood magic."
The stone arms levitated a bit and slammed the ground once more, "We'll work together to leave this place, but I don't want to see you then afterward. You'll leave me in peace."
The groaning got louder. Serenity heard a clanking noise behind her a split second before a giant metal claw flew towards her back, razor sharp but rusty.
Zane looked around and found himself surrounded by dark, mechanical, vaguely-human shapes, clanking and clicking to themselves as they penned Zane in.
Of all the graveyards in all the towns in all the world, she had to walk into mine.
"As you wish. That seems to be the norm. Though if you look back at this day, please remember the fact that it was you who summoned forth your magical abilities and threatened me with their use, while I stand here with no weapons drawn or means of power readied. So who here is the truly dangerous one?"
Zane then notices the monsters surrounding him, and see's the claw being flung at Serenity.
"Look out!"
He then draws his scalpel and slices a cut into his forearm, and sends razor sharp disks made of his blood flying around him in a huge cloud, slicing the monsters limb from limb. He then looks about for any more creatures to shred, holding his hand to the cut, trying to focus despite the loss of blood.
