The Captain knew how rare Hatchling eggs were, since - like him, and most likely Neko and the boy - they weren't even from this world, which meant that they were not only rare but valuable.
Who is Mr. Rooster?
"Oh, he owns the store, or at least he used to. He gave me a job when no one else would. He's a nice man. He has an apartment just around the corner. We should try there."
Ok. Sharjan may have possessed some cowardly traits, but he was still a leader of a skeleton crew. And that required some courage. Still, he looked to Neko for approval. He wasn't quite sure if he was still in her custody. Shall we- Ooh! What's this?
The skeleton captain bent down and picked up something shiny. Being a pirate also meant he had an eye for treasure. Dangling from the Captain's bony fingers was a thin silver chain which had attached to it a small silver heart. Sharjan brought the necklace up to his hollow eye sockets for closer inspection.
Ooh, there appears to be blood on it.
The boy moved nearer for a better look, but upon seeing the piece of jewelry he staggered back, clutching his head as if in pain. The Captain quickly went to help him only to remember there was nothing he could do.
What's wrong?
The pain seemed to be subsiding and the boy was left with tear-filled eyes. Holding back the sobs, he managed to speak.
"It's Brandy's necklace. I remember...she was down here with me." Seeing the Captain's worrisome expression, the boy chose to elaborate. "She's my best friend. She came down from Highever to visit me. I think she was with me when the fire broke out."
Then let's go speak to Mr. Rooster. Sharjan said with conviction. He was desperate now, too, to get some answers.
The boy nodded and led the way out of the cellar. Sharjan pocketed the silver necklace, which Neko may or may not have noticed. Then they all headed down the street.
You ok with all this, kitten? The good Captain asked Neko.
