Some changes and opportunities.

As you have no doubt noticed, three of our players retired today for their own personal reasons. I imagine many of you don't recognize Ansel or Serenity as their demands on their time had rendered them largely inactive on the board, but many of you will have played with Marg or his aliases, Chaz and Loreburn.

It's a shame to see people go for any reason. In the almost ten years I have been doing this I have seen many good friends leave (and a small handful I only wish to forget). Life changes for everyone and such hobbies can be time consuming. Neko is actually a returning player who started the original game with me and was one of the first admin - and has been gone for several years! Looking back on it, the game rolls on and so do the players.

Marg was, however; doing more than their share of GMing and I cannot say we won't be feeling the loss there. I am keen to have all players busy and active and strive to get new players involved as frequently as possible, so let's address that.

If you're looking for something to do, I would ask that you never hesitate to see if you can't join another thread. The tavern is always there for rp as well and is a great place to get to know other players and their characters.

If you would like to be a Game Master yourself and am interested in trying out, you should contact admin straight away so they can see to you running a trial and seeing how you go. It can be a lot of fun and if you've got some great story ideas, there's no better way to play them out.

I do not ask that GMs remain constantly busy, but instead understand the game, take some time to help new players to do the same and are certified to hand out rewards to players for participation.

Thanks to all of you for sticking around and playing with us and just know, through thick and thin we always appreciate our players. There's no game without you.

I will extend a hand to any that wish to try GM'ing. If you want to be a Game Master, please pm me and we'll see to a trial story. This might be difficult with everyone's schedules but, I will be happy to keep an eye on any that wish to try.

I do caution you. It is time consuming. It is also mentally draining. If any of you have written cooperative stories before I'm sure you will understand this, as trying to keep the plot cohesive when you have to account for another's actions is... well... difficult.

That said. I will not tell you no. As Grayell has previously mentioned the game is for the players. Game Masters do a lot of work behind the scenes that is not always visible to people who visit the site to write. I've been with the Menagerie for almost a year now, and I started as a writer first. My reasons for expanding that into being a Game Master are not important, here. But, I will be happy to listen to yours.

Well everyone, please say congrats to Neko for being welcomed as a new GM. With his looong heritage with the site, I know he can write incredible stories.

Our other GMs presently are of course still Orp and Celephai who is also a relatively new addition (if you can spot the tentacles hiding about). We may also have a couple of other players trying out this week so keep an eye out and be sure to thank them for their hard work.

Changes have been made to the FAQ and Game Guide in reference to Character Knowledge. The below was added:

HOW DOES CHARACTER KNOWLEDGE WORK?

Upon completion of any adventure or story, your character is considered to have any knowledge gained from that adventure or story at the start of your next new adventure or story. Knowledge gained from a completed adventure or story can not be carried over into adventures or stories that began before the knowledge was gained. .((Much the same way equipment works))

This rule does not include the Tavern or solo RPing in your "home" as these tend to be open interactions with little to no set conclusion

Please, do not mention events in other threads and adventures that have not been completed as yet. We have rules about abusing OOC knowledge and the best way to avoid it to only refer to events after they are completed and in the past.

Good idea on the Character Knowledge Neko. I just now noticed this addition. We've had trouble in the past with people using OOC knowledge in other threads so I'm glad this was hashed out and put into the Guide.
