Wistvale was quickly growing into a small burg. With that, it needed to expand the facilities required by the growing population. Sewers, of course, were made to help move water both into, and out of, the city. After all, the wells and cisterns needed to be fed, and people wanted their waste to be funneled out as swiftly and unobtrusively as possible, so now a growing network of tunnels and culverts had been carved out of what was once dirt and rock. So large, it could be considered a small city underneath the current town, and, of course, if something can live there, something will.
Celephai, long absent from the town of Wistvale, had returned. How she had made her way inside was unknown to any, but within the first few nights of her arrival, some had spotted a monstrous creature, many-limbed and with glowing eyes, prowling about the city and disappearing into its dark alleys. The thing that should not have been, was back.
The sewers were, by far, a natural choice for one like her. Dark at all hours, plenty of clean food from the inland sea, fresh water from the wells, and spacious areas for living seemed almost ideal.
Celephai wandered through the maze of passages and antechambers, vestibules, halls, and cisterns. Entire swimming pools of reservoirs and waterfalls of overflow from the world above, towering archways supporting the streets overhead turned this dank place into a veritable temple. It often baffled her why such architecture would be wasted on something someone would never see. Then again, most humans never did anything that made sense to her.
She found a large pool, likely a reservoir for a nearby well, discarded her large cloak and promptly dove in. The water certainly felt (and smelled) clean enough, and her exploration had made her feel... grimy to say the least. For a few minutes, Cel explored the depths of the reservoir, examining its egresses and entrances, but was soon content merely to float on the water's surface and relax. It was a peaceful experience, in this dark, forgotten place, devoid of others whom would call her 'monster'. In a way, it was a paradise. A place she could rest, far from prying eyes, where she could keep safe her most valued possessions...
