Chaz was crawling along main street, in the middle of the road, ignoring people, horses, carriages and everything else as they passed him. His eyes were covered by a series of glass lenses, strapped to his head by a leather strap. His ears twitched, his tail waved back and forth, and he seemed utterly interested in the ground as he crawled along it.
A good scientist is a person with original ideas. A good engineer is a person who makes a design that works with as few original ideas as possible.
Grant rushes through the road, eyes locked on a cloaked individual running like a mad-man. Not noticing Chaz crawling around, Grant run straight into him and is sent flying, landing on top of a rather large woman. Standing up, he looks at the woman and shakes his head
"You are guilty of Gluttony. Stop eating so damned much, or I'll be back. I've got more important things to do right now"
He turns around, ignoring the woman's shocked expression, and walks over to Chaz
"You just interrupted my apprehension of a criminal and a sinner. You have impeded my justice, what reason do you have for this? Because seriously, who just goes crawling around. That's just a bit insane."
Chaz was kicked over onto his back, dazed a moment. He looked up at Grant, recovering and looking distracted.
Oh. Sorry sir. I was just... He looked back at the ground, turning and getting on his knees to look at the ground again, readjusting the array of lenses on his eyes.
Studying.
A good scientist is a person with original ideas. A good engineer is a person who makes a design that works with as few original ideas as possible.
Grant glances at Chaz, a look of confusion on his face. He leans over and stares at the dirt in front of Chaz, squinting so hard that it began to hurt. Finally he turns back and shrugs
"Alright, I give up. What in the world are you 'studying' that requires you to stare at the ground like that?"
Shayla entered the town and took a good look around, it wasn't to large but it wasn't exactly small either. She began to walk down the street and examine anything and everything that she passed. it was a nice day for a stroll after, a slight breeze in the air and the sky was a bright blue, almost to bright to be honest. She checked her weapons and made sure that they were secured in place. No need to have people think she was a threat, after all she had always been more of a lover then a fighter. She had gone down only a few feet when she noticed two men conversing. the first one seemed to be very.... irritable while the other seemed to be lacking when it came to an attention span, he seemed to stare at the ground like it was the most interesting thing in the world. Shayla herself looked at the ground, there was nothing but dirt rocks and a couple bugs. This observation however made her more interested and she walked over to the man wearing the peculiar goggles "what's so interesting about the ground?" she asked not knowing the larger man had just asked and been answered the same thing.
Grant looks at the new arrival approvingly, she seemed like an upstanding citizen... She didn't stink of sin. After reaching this conclusion he looks back down to the small furry man and glares
"Yes, but what I want to know now is: What on Earth is a 'Ley Line'?"
Shayla looked at him an eyebrow raised in confusion. Was he trying to belittle her intelligence with such a reply? Ley lines, what the heck were ley lines? she nodded her head slightly, "I see... and ley lines are what exactly?" she asked hoping to receive an answer that had more description then the previous one. she stared at the ground, and it hit her, his goggles, he must be able to see these "ley lines" with his silly goggles. His fascination with the ground made her wonder just how important these "ley lines" were.
Chaz sighed and got up to his knees, flipping up his goggles.
Ley lines, the lines of magical energy that flow all over the world. He looked at them blankly, then pulled a small map from his pocket, spreading it out on the ground. It was a map of the area, with blue pencil marks in lines on it. The small spot that said "Wistvale" had an intersection of two lines inside it. He traced his finger along a couple, his tail whipping back and forth excitedly.
Magic flows down these lines like a river, radiating energy. And where two of them intersect, you get a magical well, positively bursting with potential. That's what I'm trying to find.
He smiled wide, flipping down his goggles and nodding once.
A good scientist is a person with original ideas. A good engineer is a person who makes a design that works with as few original ideas as possible.
"So, this 'well' is some sort of magical energy source? Does that mean that criminals could be using it to get extra power? Abusing the power of nature for your own greed is a dire sin indeed... I'll come with you, so I can make sure that this place is kept free from sinful scum."
Apparently satisfied with the conclusion he reached, Grant grins and nods
Shayla raised an eyebrow at the larger man "you're really anti-criminal huh? well i'm coming to, cant let the power fall into the uh...wrong hands" she said grinning, though of course she was referring to the angry man as the wrong hands but he didn't need to know that. She smiled at her swords ready to use them again and excited to do something in this new town, she looked at the other man, the one obsessed with ley lines, and she hoped he wouldn't mind her intrusion but she couldn't see him possibly protecting himself he seemed very.... frail compared to other warriors and fighters she had seen.
Chaz stared at Grant a moment, brow furrowed and ears against his head a little, trying to figure out if he was serious. He winced and nodded after a long pause.
Riiiight. Right. That's...good.
He cleared his throat and folded up his map, getting to his feet and folding the lenses over his eyes again.
Well, I don't mind you coming along. This is such a wealth of scientific knowledge that I can use! Let's head this way, it should intersect a few streets down.
He headed off at a good clip, along the street.

(I'll GM this. We'll open it up a bit. For now, Sophia looks like she hasn't been on in a bit, so she can catch up if she likes. Chaz, you're telling the story here, but I'm confirming GMy things.)
Dominic [M:123:1420:][D3v:http://rpgmenagerie.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=cs&thread=382&page=1#14144]Let me tell you a story...[0:No encore today][1:You have my attention]
Dominic was walking the streets himself. Pretty newly arrived in town and having decided to stick around awhile he had resolved to find out more about this place. He'd walked a clockwise, or deosil, spiral for most of the day, drawing closer and closer to the centre of town, trying to build his mental map. He was taking in sounds, scents and feelings, the cobbles under his feet, baking bread, manure, smoke, faint spice, chattering voices. One he recognized, however, as Chaz. Not knowing who he was with he decided to holler over anyway.
"Chaz! How goes the day? Out for a stroll with friends?" he called from across the lane, clack clacking his way over with his long staff.
Love, like Hope, has too few letters for a word so powerful.
