Jonah felt like he was finally getting somewhere; Solena appeared to be losing her cool, retaliating with anger - a defense mechanism that surely had become so much a part of the wayward half-elf's persona. It was going to take time to reform this young one but at this point the Akaiyan was preoccupied with defending himself from stones and rocks.
'Protect the head and heart', is what his wise, old Master Farroh used to tell him during training sessions. 'You will not last long without them.' Jonah chuckled on the inside to the random memory as he dived to the side, taking only a few hard knocks to his right shoulder and back; that was going to leave a bruise or two in the morning.
My, my, Miss Mullan, you sure are eager to inflict hurt on others. The tribesman said, as he sprang back on to his feet. Why do you think that is?
That is not true. I have yet to hurt you. Did you think that neither one of us would get hurt from this duel? Or are you quiting on me now?
She continued with her arms out in front of her, controlling the rocks around them. As she spoke she stopped moving them around and took the time to gain some strength. Although most part of the fight was not physical combat, the magic she used was consuming her from within. The swet coming down her face was beginning to show.

Quitting? Not a chance!
Jonah gave a wide grin as he spied the beginnings of sweat appear on Solena's brow.
And I knew there would be some hurt, but I didn't realize how keen you would be to dish it out.
The tribesman decided to change tactics and sheathed his darkwood sword, then cast his occupied sword belt aside. Clearly Jonah was not going to fare well against this femme fatal with her earthen magic and twin blades and goodness knows what else, so he chose to go against her in hand-to-hand combat - if Solena had a shred of honor and would do the same, that is, which Jonah suspected would not be the case.
The tribesman rushed at the half-elf warrior and feinted an attack - thrusting his open palm at her chest - then at the last moment, pulled his hand back, dropped into a crouch and rolled to the side, to appear behind the young woman and kicked out at the back of her left knee.
Solena was suprised to see the tribesman place his sword down and rush at her unarmed. It was foolish maybe, but she did not know how to fight hand-to-hand much, other than with her magic of coarse. With a single move, she dug both her swords to the ground, one on each side of her.
With Jonah seeming like he was going to attack her head on, she raised her arms using her eath magic to defend herself.
Earth wall!
In an instant the ground under her rose and created a wall, that was of no use because Jonah had rolled to the side and kicked the back of her left knee making her lose her balance and fall to one knee. The wall turned to dirt and fell to the ground when she lost control of it. When Jonah now behind her, she rolled forward and spun around to face him again. Still on the ground, Solena raised her hands once again and pointed them at Jonah's feet.
Trap hole!
The ground under Jonah quickly began to sink down under him in an attempt to make him fall into the small hole, deep enough to where it would take him a while to climb out if he were to fall into it if he were not a great climber. That move made her even more weaker physically. She was now breathing hard from the exhaustion.

Jonah had been ready to face another earthly rising but not for the ground to be taken away from beneath his feet. In a vain attempt to avoid the trap, the tribesman threw his body forward but it was too late, the ground was already disappearing and Jonah had no solid footing to push off from. Landing only a few feet away from where he had just been standing, Jonah fell into the hole, constantly clawing at the dirt for purchase.
Once the earth stopped moving, Jonah stood at the bottom of the hole, looking up at the blue sky. His hands and the front of his clothes were black with dirt and, despite the fact he could probably have climbed out of the hole in a few minutes, he decided to take a breather.
Nice trick. How are you feeling after that one?
Jonah could hear Solena breathing hard - the effort it took to perform so much magic in such a short amount of time was clearly getting to the half-elf.
Seeing that her last attack worked, she laid her back to the ground and began to rest. The tribesman had really worn her out with all the magic she used on him. She was really impressed she had to go so far. She closed her eyes as she took in air.
I'm alright... Mr. Pure, why do you care for others?
She realised after the conversation they had during the fight, Jonah was trying to make her change the way she thought of others. She wondered why and hoped that just asking him would be easier to find out.

Why wouldn't you?
Jonah was slightly baffled by the unexpected question.
Have you never cared for anyone else? Love, friendship, admiration; these are the ties that bind people together. Tell me, do you feel alone and full of hate?
When asked if she ever cared for anybody else, she could only think of Charlotte. Her eyes opened and she watched the clouds slowly move in the sky. Right then it didn't even feel like she was still in a middle of a duel, but just relaxing and chatting with a friend, which she rarely did other than with Charlotte.
Not everyone has those traits. Most of the people I've come across are the opposite of that, Mr. Pure. Some even pretend they are, but hide the truth behind their innocent smiles... I don't feel alone nor feel hate. I just worry about myself and Charlotte and nobody else.
Her breathing had slowed and she was no longer swetting as much as before. She was gaining her energy back, wondering if she should free the tribesman from the hole.
Solena remained laying down on the ground, looking up at the sky as the clouds passed by slowly, some with familiar shapes that she could make out. The duel had turned to a softer side, and she too was enjoying the chat, although she knew Jonah was still in her trap hole. Neither one of the two were in danger and that was the best part.
She's... my best friend. We've had great times since our paths have crossed and great adventures at that. It's the first time we've spent so long on land. We were usually on her ship in the ocean. I'm actually glad we're back on land tho. I have no magic over water.
No, she's here. At times she just needs time and space to have a little privacy I guess. I tend to look around during those times, searching for something interesting to do... In this case I bumped into you. Hehe... I'm actually glad I did.
With that, Solena stood up brushing the dirt off her and she walked over to the trap hole, where the tribesman had fallen into. Her hands raised up in front of her raising them higher as the ground where Jonah was did so as well. Once he was up to her level she lowered her hands.
Sorry if I over did this sparring match. You are a very formidable fighter for not having any magic what-so-ever. You're stronger than I thought.

Haha, thanks. And I had fun. Jonah said, while rubbing his aching shoulder muscles. We'll have to do this again some time...that's if you're sticking around in Wistvale for a while.
