Kiga was slippery, his shoulder slunk away from her hand as he spun, his hand jutting out and pressing her wrist away. It was not a strike, but a ripple of wind washed over both of them, tiny feathers falling as he stepped back and folded his arms.
I would hope brutality is against the law. If I am not under arrest we are done here Captain. I have business elsewhere.
That was not a condition of my employment, but a courtesy.
Kiga did not pursue her, he did not so much as move. He thought for a second before speaking.
I am loathe to divulge the terms of my contract, but was instructed to offer you all assitance. If this facilitates the completion of my contract then so be it.
I was hired to aid this town should it come under attack. This is not what was anticipated, but I find it quite within the parameters of my employment.
I am very willing to aid you how you best see fit as long as it does not compromise that contract. I can assure you, I can hold my own and have no desire to get in your way. I was not hired as a guard, but instead to simply protect the town in whatever capacity I best can.
I am nothing but an insurance policy. You seem to have your hands quite full, perhaps it was prudent that I was hired.
He turned to walk away and did so, but then halted. He looked to the ground beside him.
He told me of your ability. I must say I am impressed that he speaks so highly of you. I will not hamper your work. This is something of a favor I owe him.
Kiga broke into a bounding sprint then, before swinging upward and slipping over a rooftop, scarf trailing as a long whistle carried on the breeze.

"There's no time for petty arguments and pride, captain! I taught one of the patients how to raise the dead and he escaped! They're reproducing themselves at an exponential rate! Soon they'll outnumber the whole living population! We must do something!"
Alright. Where are they coming from? Where do we need to go to stop this?

Chaz watched them go and shook his head. No way he'd follow them...for now, at least. He decided to hole up in the blacksmith for now.
But when he got home he got an idea. A wonderful idea. A wonderful, awful idea. He picked up a chain from a nearby desk and an old sawblade. Half the teeth were missing. Then he looked at a nearby clock-driven motor.
He grinned. This was going to be fun.
A good scientist is a person with original ideas. A good engineer is a person who makes a design that works with as few original ideas as possible.
