The noble stared back at Daenien, "If you can actually create something that can slow that damned thing down, you'll have my resources at your disposal."
William began to speak once more,
"The other men who hunted with Lord Swiftaxe were less fortunate, having been torn in two with one swipe of the creature's claws. Lord Swiftaxe's experience as a warrior saved him this last encounter."
The Dwarf intervened, "Blasted thing just left me to die, didn't have the courtesy of finishing me off. My men found me several hours later clinging to life with this damned mark."
"Our local doctor could just manage to get him to breath properly, the side effects of this 'curse' is still unknown to us. After a month in recovery, we sent out word to the surrounding area with promises of fame, glory, and of course gold."
A guard rushed through the door and rushed over to the noble's side. He whispered something quietly into his ear, looking very serious but Swiftaxe's expression was as stern as it had been the whole time the group was present.
"I see... yes, well give me their names later, and give them to the treasurer so she can prepare the stipend to give off to their families."
Before the guard was finished, he told something that did raise Swiftaxe's eyebrows in surprise and then proceeded to leave the room.
"My guard tells me you all performed an extra service for me, tell me, how did you all fare against our local plague?"
"I have to say that I personally was not able to aid in the defense. Upon our arrival, there was a guard who was heavily injured from a festering wound in the leg. I spent the majority of the battle healing him. It was tough, but I think he will survive, and even be able to use his leg again."
He then motoined to the rest of the group
"These men are the ones who actually did the work that killed the beasts."

"I'm not one to downsell myself, but all I did was throw a bottle." Daenien grinned sheepishly.
"As for the poison... Well, it depends on whether you have the right herbs. It's a relatively simple poison, but it brings down most big game after a few minutes. It'll at least make this thing dizzy, maybe bring it down. I'll need..." he listed a few ingredients. The first two were pretty common, but the third was rather expensive.
"I'm not certain about this, mind, I'm just remembering this from the ingredients label," he added, still grinning. "But I wouldn't suggest it if I wasn't reasonably sure. I'll also need a half-pound of salt."

(Right, will do. Can't edit from here, Sooo... Ingredient one: Merryweed. A disorienting grass which causes extreme dizziness and nausea. If mixed with goat's milk it has the added effect of dulling pain, and the other effects are reduced somewhat. It's somewhat of a staple for herbal doctors.
Ingredient 2: Blackwatch. A dark red stem which causes extreme sedation in a target. It's been known to cause comas in large enough doses; however, it's fairly harmless Iif managed right.
Ingredient 3: Bloodcurse. While completely harmless on it's own, when ground, it's juices can be mixed with Merryweed and Blackwatch, as well as half a pound of salt, to create a mixture deadly enough to fell a powerful bear in seconds.
Poison name: Hunter's folly. A common mistake among novice hunters. Game killed with it is still edible if cooked properly, but it tastes absolutely horrible no matter how many seasonings you use.
And no, he was just joking a bit. XP He's had it made for him before and asked about the ingredients. That's why he's slightly uncertain.)
Swiftaxe grunted, "Those two are nothing but cowards, but they've been good for exporting some of my town's goods with that damn blight outside our walls."
He walked over to Jericho, "But you," he patted his shoulder, "I've a good feeling about you. Haha, we'll show that damned thing what for!"
The Dwarf faced Zane, "Doctor, that man is dead now, as a man of medicine you should know a lost cause when you see it. We're going to go out there with a contingent of my guard, I hope you'll know then as well. If I die, I can't pay you; if this dragon born dies, our armed advantage is lost."
A young servant woman came into the room now with four little pouches sitting on a pillow.
"Ah, yes, a little bonus for your service out at the checkpoint. While we face the Whiters on a weekly basis, any victory is a moral victory to this town. 30 pieces for all of you."
The girl handed out the bags to each member of the party.
"Now, Linda here will show you to your quarters on the second floor. We won't start the hunt till tomorrow night, in the mean time you may explore my town if you like. Dinner will be served later this evening."
With that, the young woman proceeded to ask the party to follow her, she led them to the entrance of the home and up a stair case that leads to a hall of bedrooms. There happened to be just four, one for each.
Inside each was a bed, a night stand, and a desk. The rooms were simple but furnished nicely.
"They'll be brought up to your room later, if you have a specific requisition be sure to let Linda know and she'll make the request."
From here on you can explore the town or commune among yourselves. If you'd like to explore the town I can personally run you through it, however if you take long in your little adventures a servant will come fetch you for dinner, and you can't miss it.
Zane had a barely concealed grimace on his face as Swiftaxe blatantly insulted his skills as a doctor. He looked the man right in the eyes and nearly growled.
"You sir should learn to take the word of a doctor more seriously. This guard, who was trained in your forces I would suspect, did NOT as a matter of fact fall victim to the Whiters. During defense, he was cut by his own blade. He had a leg wound that had begun to fester and was infected."
Zane then seemed to deflate slightly and compose himself again
"Despite this fact, I removed the flesh around the infection, used white magic to cleanse the infection, and drained the bad blood. I then healed his muscles, veins, and arteries, finally sowing his leg up. The man will live, and will likely be even better for the experience, as he will have learned something your training apparently did not teach him. So next time you tell a doctor to his face that he doesn't know what he's talking about, you better be showing some credentials."
He then began to make his way to the room, but then stopped and turned back around.
"Actually, your lordship, I would like to have a private audience with you. This means not even the spies that tend to sit at spy holes in halls. For I have something to tell you that may be important for the upcoming battle."
Jericho Stood in the lobby, having no intention of going anywhere, and he overheard Zane's request. Not having anything to do, nor would he easily get to sleep, he thought about what he should do. He though of the upcoming battle and what could help. Hell, any advantage Zane was going to give to the employer is an advantage to us.
Lord Swiftaxe and Zane, I would like to join you in your meeting, for an advantage to one of a whole should be an advantage of the whole.
Swiftaxe turned around to face Zane again, "And for what? Saved a man who couldn't fight off a pale face horde? His group was killed off right after you all left them there doctor. If anything you at least gave him that dignity instead of being killed by his own stupidity. Now be off with ye before I lose my patience."
He was about to head to his quarters to rest before he was stopped by Zane yet again, "By my ancestors, what then? What could you know that I don't already?"
The lord was growling but he sent off William and the rest of his servants from the lobby, "I don't have no damn peep holes, my family has never been challenged in all their history coming here. Now say your peace so I can sleep till dinner."
