Just a topic I wanted to touch on, as we have a few new faces around here and this is a recurring question or hot topic.
We don't have pets, or familiars and such.
Now that might seem harsh and I like roleplaying old Fido as much as the next guy, but pets have proven to be another one of those cans of worms. We have had pet lists and pet skills and everything up to your own, personal horse and such...
... but it always gets complicated. Or cluttered. It doesn't add a great deal to the game and unless I am quite wrong, I think we do just fine without it.
You'll notice that any form of 'animal kinship' has been nerfed in the skills list, as it really is a bit more mystical than mundane.
You'll also noticed that the 'wood elves' aren't the animal loving, forest champions as well (due to that shtick being very tired).
All of that said (and please excuse any rambling, my pain meds tend to do that), if you have any feedback or questions, please feel free.
I don't see why we can't. They can be used strictly as RP elements like Tanto was. No buffs, and individual stats for the critter, just a fluff enhancer for characters. Of course it could give some of our more devious GM's something to mess with ;P
Maybe even NPC. A house pet to rp and spend time with while one is not out on an adventure. Not to be used in adventures.
GM NOTE:: Redblade is a known felon and escaped criminal. This can and should effect all interactions with certain people that would be aware of his status. Especially the Sentinels.
"I fought the law and then I was broken out... Is that a bad thing?"
Hmm... Miroslaw has a pet... I think it adds a great RP aspect. For example, the tid bit that Alex came and did in my homestead. Got buried alive... would have died if my little pet wolf didn't dig me out.
Up to this point, I have not taken the wolf on an adventure threads because I was unable to find any rules on it, but I really do and always have enjoyed RP with a pet. For the sake of simplicity, I can see why they are not on the site. However, I still think they can add a very nice element to roleplay.
Death is no more than turning us over from time to eternity. Whether that eternity is damnation or salvation is determined in the time we have.
Well, I am inclined to permit them in home threads, as those are personal threads for each character. Pets will have to remain mundane though, magical familiars and befriending predatory man-killers is stretching it.
Mundane is acceptable. I usually only RP with an ass that has a mental problem or something of that nature. hehe. So, the idea of bringing them on an adventure outside of homestead is a no go? Or could it be potentially left up to the GM of the particular adventure?

That's one example. In 3rd Dawn, he has stats and did attack and all those other things. Yeesh.
In this game, Don introduced him as a giant forest spirit and that's all he was. We've seen more headaches with it, than we have without. Well obviously, lol.
If it's just RP, the home threads are for just RP. But when there's things on the line, I don't see the benefit. And really, 5 adventurers head into the evil wizards castle, accompanied by their dog, their cat, their owl, their monkey and their goldfish... what?
I agree that we really dont need them on adventures, but that allowing them in home threads would be ok. People wanting a bit of RP involving their pet can do it there. Or MAYBE reach out to a GM to ask for a solo adventure with them and their pet. But not bring them on open adventures...
