Celephai remained looking straight ahead, but kept her voice low.
"Everything has a price, craftsman. Everything. Lives, souls, time, space... it's all a matter of coming up with the right payment and the right merchant."
Not long after, the massive, intelligent beetle came to a stop, leaning to one side of the cavern, revealing a massive plate not dissimilar in appearance to the one outside. Strange hieroglyphs and odd letters strewn across its surface, but near the bottom a large collection of some purple, foul-smelling liquid had congealed.
"I wish you luck in your endeavors... and if you do find what you are looking for, you will still need to find an exit."
With that line, the massive insectoid hefted the circular plate from it's position, revealing a darkness that seemed to crawl into the tunnel. Celephai and Chaz were unceremoniously dropped from their carriers outside the plate's groove, and just as swiftly as the plate was opened, it was shut, leaving the two alone in utter darkness.
What was visible in the nearly non-existent light were a few oddly-colored lights flickering an undiscernible distance away. Some were located far above, others far beneath them, but overall, nothing solid or distinguishable other than that. The area immediately around them, however, was a rocky slope obviously unpaved or to be used as a pathway. It sloped downward some distance before, once again, darkness inhibited their view.
Celephai merely sighed at this turn of events.
"...Well, Chaz, tell me, can you remember sunlight? That warm, soothing sensation we had but a short while ago? I do hope you do, because it is quite likely we're never going to see it again."
There was nothing more than a suffocating silence after she spoke. They could just barely see each other and their surroundings, even as their eyes adjusted to the impossible blackness that surrounded them.
