"I'd not dream of pissing you off, Miss Margrett," Alec says, smiling, following just behind and to the right of her.
Come in under the shadow of this red rock, and I will show you something different from either your shadow at morning, striding behind you, or your shadow at evening, rising to meet you. I shall show you fear in a handful of dust.

"That'll hardly be necessary," Alec says. "The entrance to an Ayleid structure is easily identifiable; white stone, with an open circle containing a closed one on the door."

As they crest the hill, in a small valley before them is a white stone door set into the side of the rocky face of the next hill.
Oh. Huh. I thought it would be bigger. The door was shut. Margrett jumped down and examined it.
Is there a trick to opening these things?

"Did I mention massive technical advantages, as part of how they "did it", as you say?" Alec asks, still smiling, as he depresses the closed circle in the center of the door, and watches the marble door scrape slowly into the floor. Bowing at the waist and holding a hand into the gloom with a flourish, he chuckles. "Ma'am?"

Very good, sir. Keep that up. Then she took a step inside. Stone stairs led down, into the darkness.
Let's take this cautiously. They probably have traps in here.
She went in slowly, letting the others follow her.

Following, Alec clasps his hands behind his back, still beaming, looking around. "I've only been in one Ayleid ruin proper before, you know, and that one was caved in beyond the first chamber."

Kerag scratched the back of his head.
"Ayleid? Is that what they called themselves?"
The orc wasn't well versed in history or lore, so it wasn't a surprise he was clueless as to what they were getting themselves into. All he knew was the promise of adventure and treasure, and that was enough for Kerag.
He slowly took the stairs down, following Margrett's lead, his armor clanking and echoing down the walls.
Up ahead the stairs leveled off and then turned a corner. Margrett put up her hands to step them behind her, then half-turned to Alec.
Did they usually put up traps? Because this looks like the perfect place for it.

Glancing around absently, Alec shrugs. "No. Unless this was a military installation. And if it were, we'd be dead already. Probably. I mentioned accepting all forms of magic, no? Trapping spirits was one of those forms of magic."

The chamber Kerag turned into was large, with a vaulted ceiling. Everything was still made of stone, and it had several branching paths leading off of it. It was dimly lit by glowing blue stones hanging from the ceiling. Each passage was labeled with a few normal names: "Armory," "Library," "Quarters," and the like. Alec could read the old lettering, but the others couldn't.

Walking to one of the name plaques, Alec scrapes dirt from the engraved stone. "Armory," he reads off, then turns at the waist. "We wanted loot? This is where we'll find it. The treasury will be through here probably, too."
