::The young man cringed on the ground with his hands held in front of himself pleadingly as the blood from his leg mixed with another liquid from his body to moisten the dry dirt of the alley.::
"East Gate! We was supposed to head to the East Gate!"
Goose eased up on the bow a bit, satisfied with the answer.
"East Gate? Going on a romantic honeymoon are ya? Well, you can't keep a girl waiting."
The old man put away his arrow and slung his bow around his shoulder as he went for the sack on the ground. It took two men to carry it, but Goose felt confident enough he could carry it back to thee stop these two just came from. With any luck, some Sentinels will finally be there.
"You run along now and meet your sweetheart, or ol' Goose'l put an arrow in your other knee just for fairness sake."
::The man scrambled to get up and hobbled away on his wounded leg with just the occasional look back to be sure he wasn't going to be shot in the back.
You manage to carry the heavy bag back to the rear of the shop when you hear more noises coming from inside.::
"Looks like a break in, alright. The thieves were clumsy too, from the looks of it. Flarb knocked all over the place..."
As Goose came closer to the shop, he heard the voices coming from inside. He figured at last the Sentinels had arrived in time to see the deed already done. Damned fools.
With a huff he set the bag down near the rear entrance, "That better be the officers I hear inside, and not another knee looking to get shot at again!"
::There was the sound of movement inside and Goose suddenly found himself face to face with a pair of men clad in armor and purple cloaks. Both held short swords at the ready as they emerged from the door, forcing you to step back away from the bag.::
"That's fine, son, I can just as easily hurt you with my bare hands," Goose said as he dropped his bow and quiver to the side of the building.
"And I may look old, son, but I can hear just fine. Don't wake up the whole street now."
Goose raised his arms up all the same. Even he knew when to show respect to an authority, even if the authority was stupid and slow to respond to thieves on their street that 'helpless' old men have to apprehend for them. Well, that last part wasn't true for Goose, but he was tired and couldn't do anything about it. His good deed could only go so far.
::One of the men moved to glance down the alleyway in both directions, while the other moved closer to you and kicked your quiver and bow a few feet further away, keeping his sword on you the entire time.::
"Are you threatening a Sentinel of the Watch, Theif?!"
Goose's teeth began to show at the corner of his mouth, agitated at the idiots in front of him. What kind of thief brings the goods back to the store he just robbed from?
"No, sir." Goose manage to spit out, "I got this sack from your real thief who's probably limping to the East Gate right now. If you hurry you can catch one of 'em."
Goose tried to remain calm, but if he was called a thief again he might just lose it. There's no way these men were that stupid, unless they just allowed anyone in the Sentinels.
::The one in you face keeps a close watch on you. His eyes searching your face for any sign of falsehood.
The other looks at you with a start before looking down the alley to the darkened dirt where the man had been injured and soiled himself. It is he that speaks this time.::
"Even if he told you true, I doubt they will head there without the loot that wanted.
So you mean to tell us you caught these theives in the act. Wounded one. Yet allowed them to flee after being questioned?"
"Didn't want to make you boys look bad for letting an old man do your job for you. Besides, I can't very well have carried this sack and watched over a thief at the same time."
Goose was getting tired of holding his arms up so he let them fall to his sides before leaning on the wall of the building. His patience with the Sentinels was wearing thin as he grew more tired by the second, longing to go back to the tavern now to go to his room and rest.
"Are you gonna hold me here long, or can I finally go get some shut eye? I told you all that happened already, there's not more to tell."
::The one in your face didn't look to happy with your comments.::
"For someone that doesn't want to job our job for us, you seem to have no prolem telling us how to do it."
::He reaches under his cloak and you can hear the rattle of chains, presumably manacles, before the other guard steps up and places a hand on his arm.::
"Leave him be, Farr. He was trying to protect the goods."
"You mean to tell me you think he couldn't watch over a bag and a boy shot in the leg?!"
"I said leave him be. Go check see to the bag and check the shop for any clues as to who did this. That's an order."
::He pulls Farr back a step and tries to interpose himself between the two of you. Farr reacts by turning his back and walking away back into the shop.::
"Please forgive my partner. He is new to the Sentinels and looking to prove himself. I have alerted others and they will be on their way. I thank you for your assistance here, citizen. I have your statement, so if I can get your name in case we have any more questions then you should be free to go."
::You can see a broach pinned to the Sentinel's cloak that bears the crest of his Faction. It's giving off a faint, pulsing light.::
The old man had dealt with hot heads before, heck, he was one once upon a time. He didn't really pay the sentinel much mind as he went and buggered off on command. At least not all of them were a pain to deal with.
Goose saw the glowing faction pin of the Sentinels and let out a brief chuckle whilst shaking his head a bit.
"Didn't have those when I was a ranger. Paul Grayson."
"Very well. If we have a need to ask you further questions, we will leave a message there with Orin."
::The man turns to go assist his partner and leaves you to your business.
Should you return to the Tavern, you find a message upon waking. The note written in neat handwriting on a parchment with the header for the business that was robbed the night before.::
I wanted to thank you for your help in stopping the thieves last night. I hope you don't mind, but the Sentinels told me where I could find you. Please accept this as thanks.
::Along with the note the is a small pouch containing tiny cut gemstones. It's not near the heft that the bag you carried last night had, but they are worth some money.::
