Dani continued to try and make it to the porch, but the ground beneath her was not cooperating. Several times she stumbled and almost fell as she tried to cross the uneven terrain, but she was getting closer.
As she watched Jax fall, her attention became focused solely on him and not the ground before her. That was when her foot caught on a piece of buckled earth and she fell forward. Instinct had her put her hands out to break the fall and she winced in pain as her ankle twisted and bits of stone turned up by the roiling earth cut into her knees and palms. Still she would not let this stop her as she tried to get to her feet and carry forward. Her only goal at the moment was to get to the boy and protect him from whatever danger came his way.
"I do not aim with my hand; he who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
I aim with my eye.
I do not shoot with my hand; he who shoots with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
I shoot with my mind.
I do not kill with my gun; he who kills with his gun has forgotten the face of his father.
I kill with my heart."
