I added a small factions thread to explain the guard and the vanguard. I tried to give them equal billing and awesomeness of course.
I would like to hear from anyone that may have any other ideas for factions they might like being a part of, a mages school or some such thing that could add a little flavor to the game and potentially increase the sense of belonging to new players.

I'd say a Mage's School would be a good idea, and then maybe some sort of scout or ranger's association, just so you hit the three standard classes. Guard and Vanguard for warriors, Mage's School for magi, and the scouts/rangers for rogues and/or archer type peoples.
I dunno, I think the Sentinel/Vanguard divide is more ideological than anything. I would not be opposed to a Mage guild that existed outside the boundaries of the two, but you could still join either, and just be a mage working towards the goals of either.

Mm....maybe there should be two different mage organizations. One that is simply for the teaching of magic, and the members can join the Vanguard or the Sentinels, and another that has got a different set agenda, pursuing a different set of goals.
Maybe that could work. I don't think that conflict would be as front-and-center as Sentinels/Vanguard, though.

Wolf, I had two threads running back in February that I would like to award acclaim for: Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves and A Spell of Silence. We did not finished those threads, and with the time being moved forward it's not really possible to pick them back up in my opinion. But, they were well written and I'd like to offer the acclaim to those that participated in them.

Could I get put back in to the active roster? Also I'd like to establish Dom has managed to get himself a permenant room, maybe next to Chaz's shop or Tavern.
Crikey, I hadn't realised we'd actually timeskipped a bit. I'll have to think of something cool to come back in with.

Will do that immediately. Yup, seven years is time for plenty to change, feel free Good to see you here mate.
The sentinels and vanguard are definitely defined by their cause and no the class of their members. However, the Vanguard could easily be considered a ranger type society, given their similarity to Forgotten Realm's 'Harpers'. If you look at the Vanguard armor, you will also see it label them as rangers. I am wearing it presently actually.
A mage/scholar group would be nifty, as might a rogue/thief/criminal element of some sort. Again, I don't think they should entirely and exclusively cater to certain builds but instead, give people something that suits their interests. It's hard not to do that without resorting to stereotypes, but the stereotypes in fantasy gaming persist for a reason.
I would consider (just me personally) the Sentinels more interested in people with martial skill given the requirements of the job. Don't let that deter other types from joining of course. I am not sure anyone other than I has a grasp of what the Vanguard are as yet, which suits me just fine
I will be running some Vanguard missions when we have some interested players though.
