"Excuse me? You're with the guard, right? I've been hearing these strange sounds next door to my house recently. It sounds like someone is torturing some animal."
Margrett blinked at the surprise of the man coming up to her.
Umm...lead on...I guess...

The man leads Margrett to a house in the residential district. It's small and not too well kept. The front door is locked and an alley leads to the back.
"My house is next door. This is where I've been hearing the noises. Started about last month."
I suppose I have reasonable suspicion. I'll see if anyone's home first...thank you sir.
She nodded to him and knocked on the door just in case.

She frowns and heads around to the back through the alley, looking for any kind of window or back door that might be unlocked.

Going through the dark back alley, Margrett passes some piles of debris and garbage. It smells horrible and rotten. She finds she can stand on a crate and open a window. The windows appear like they've never been cleaned.
She had a sneaking suspicion of what was in that garbage, but she ignored it for now. She stood on the crate and opened the window, looking inside to see what was in the other room, then dropped her hat inside and pulled herself in.

She got up and, as quietly as possible, unlocked the front door so she would have an escape. Then she headed towards the back. This probable butchershop would be downstairs if any place.

Marg sees a small mudroom before the door to the back of the house. It is tiled and has a small sink. A few boots sit on the floor. Behind the house is an alley that connects many houses. More garbage and debris sits in piles. Large broken wooden boxes, long wires connected at weird angles, empty burlap sacks and a few small green feathers.
Seeing no basement, she decides she can come back to this back alley and heads upstairs.

Marg finds a study in complete disarray. Chairs and tables are overturned. Papers and books are strewn everywhere. There are wooden shelves all around the room but most are empty. The smell has become almost unbearable as the source becomes evident. Wire cages sit all over the room. Each has a wooden dowel across near the bottom and a small bowl. Piles of excrement and green feathers are everywhere. Large full burlap sacks sit all over.
One table is of particular interest. It appears similar to a table Margrett saw before. Medical instruments sit on it, some dirty and unkept. The floor around the table is stained by something. Jars sit on the table. In each jar is something about the size of a large nut floating in a translucent milky liquid.
Margrett sighed. They were dissecting parrots? Really? Or some other large bird, judging from the feathers. She tried to take a jar with her and examine the maps to see if they were of any use.

Marg sees a small brain in the jar. Each jar has a label and the one she holds is labeled Levanton, Avaria.
The maps are of many different scales. One is of just Wistvale, one is of the surrounding country, one shows a large map of the kingdom and a few others are large scale maps of other towns. The maps are many different styles and often in different scripts. One symbol recurs through the many maps: a red X placed on a few select locations on each map, usually labeled with a name.
