Marg grinned and took off after him, not as fast but still clipping along.
The shoreline was rocky, but the rocks weren't very big. They would spot him eventually, and probably spot Marg straight off, as colorful and shiny as she was from a distance.
Margrett groaned as Gray barreled into the woods, trying to follow him and not doing too well. Grayell was more used to the terrain and he sped through the woods like he was born there, catching up to the boat as it turned into the river and started to fight upstream. He left her far behind very quickly.
Grayell was hunkered low, remaining behind the foliage, unseen. The boat was one the move, albeit slowly...
He looked over his shoulder and searched the woods. No sign of her.
He had a choice to make. The boat now or Margrett. There was no choice, he plowed back into the woods to find her immediately. At least he had a fix on the boat.
Margrett growled and kept after him, her armor indeed slowing her down.
He saw ahead that the river cut right through the forest, and in a few places downed trees reached over the water. It looked like up ahead a particularly big tree would get close to the boat...
Grayell watched the boat a moment longer and made sure to see no attention was on the shore. They should have their hands full sailing the river....
He broke from cover and ran for the tree, scrambling onto it and then running to the very end. Crouched, he waited for the boat to come within reach of a decent leap...
